The Basics

Round-trip tours from Amsterdam offer easy access to the peninsula, and usually combine a visit to Marken with stops at Zaanse Schans (famous for its windmills) and Volendam, another fishing village home to a charming harbor and cheese factory. Private tours let you tailor your time in the village, while half-day tours allow time-limited travelers to cover more sights in less time. If you’re on a budget, take advantage of Super Saver deals and combine your trip with other must-do experiences at a reduced rate.

Fantastic
It was a amazing experience thanks to Raquel and Jack. Each stop offered a wonderful and different adventure. If you like cheese, this is definitely the tour to choose, as you would get to sample a variety of cheeses and as well as see how clogs (wooden Dutch shoes) are made.

We LOVED this Tour. Raquel and Jack were exceptional guides, and quite entertaining. We were fortunate to have excellent weather, and each stop was unique and showed a different side of the culture, architecture and customs. We would take this tour again if we come back, it was wonderful!

Day Trip to Zaanse Schans, Edam, Volendam and Marken from Amsterdam
This tour was amazing! We got to see so much in 6hours. So many beautiful sites, the tour guide was very informative, there was time for exploring at each site, transportation by bus between villages, cheese and wine tasting included, and you go have lunch at a seaside village. Easy way to see some of the countryside. Highly recommend.

The tour guide was brilliant and informative. Knew how to capture his audience. Apart from the tour, he gave helpful tips about which shops to avoid to save money and the best areas to visit in Amsterdam. He made jokes and got us all laughing.

Day Trip to Zaanse Schans, Edam, Volendam and Marken from Amsterdam
This trip was absolutely amazing! Our guide Laura is a super knowledgeable person and has really valuable information about the culture and landmarks. She was extremely nice and had great energy. The ladies at the farm were really funny and great at what they do. I was very happy with this tour. I only suggest to let people walk a little longer in the two towns where we are given free time. Overall, this was a great trip and I recommend it 100%.

Marken Highlights

Though it’s not open to the public, the 19th-century Horse of Marken lighthouse (Paard Van Marken) is a national heritage site and leaves a striking mark on the skyline. The Marken Museum preserves a traditional house in all its former glory, complete with a collection of traditional clothing and an exhibition on the area’s history, while the nearby Sijtje Boes House (Kijkhuisje Sijtje Boes) contains a small museum and souvenir shop selling local handicrafts and artworks. And don’t miss the Klompenmakerij, a workshop devoted to traditional clog-making.
