The Basics

While the Sagrada Familia looms large over Barcelona—it’s visible from many parts of the city—the cathedral should be seen up close and from within to truly be appreciated. Visitors can tour the interior on their own, on a guided tour, or with an audio guide. It’s also possible to take an elevator up one of the towers for sweeping views over the city.

Just about every sightseeing tour in Barcelona includes a stop here, as do hop-on hop-off bus tours, which also stop at Park Güell, Casa Batlló, La Pedrera, and Plaça de Catalunya. It’s possible to combine a visit to the Sagrada Familia with a half-day trip to the nearby mountain abbey of Montserrat or the medieval city of Girona.

Wouldn't go without a guide!!

Fast Track Sagrada Familia Guided Tour
My brother suggested going to Sagrada Familia and this was the option. When he went he didn't go on a tour - after sharing our experience he feels like he missed out. The guide gave great information that we wouldn't have learned if we had gone on our own. SO glad that we took the guided tour, we feel like we have a much better experience that we would have solo.

Priority Access: Best of Barcelona Tour Including Sagrada Familia
It was a very complete tour. The guide was very attentive to all guests answering every possible question we did have. The walking visit to the gothic city and market was excellent. More than sufficient time to visit Sagrada Familia and to also have lunch. In sum: EXCELLENT!

Private tour Sagrada Familia skip- the- line- tickets & Tapas and drinks
This was a great tour and a wonderful way to see Barcelona through local experiences rather than just tourist stops. Jenny, our guide, was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and showed us places in Barcelona we never would have ventured on our own. Our tour was on Sunday and she did a great job adjusting our tour based upon places opened. The conclusion at Sagrada Familia is a final bonus to to a great day and is not to be missed.

Fast Track Sagrada Familia Guided Tour
Fact-filled tour of the Sagrada Familia. Smoothly run. My only issue, and it was mine, was that I had a difficult time understanding our guide. She spoke English well enough, but between the dialect, masks, and audio, I missed a lot of information.

Barcelona Skip the Line Tour: Sagrada Familia, Park Güell & La Pedrera
Outstanding walking tour with some very well coordinated cab rides to whisk us to the further off sites! Our guide Montse was great! Very good English and very knowledgeable. This tour is a must pick to see the key sites of Barcelona with a knowledgeable and professional guide with well-coordinated timing! Lunch was also included with wine/beer and Montse helped with the food selection. She also adhered very well with COVID prevention measures!

We had a fantastic tour! I am always hesitant to book guided group tours but this did not disappoint. Our tour guide was Olga who was not only highly knowledgeable but also very hospitable. Make sure to ask for Olga!

Sites were incredible as was our guide Susy. She is a local who was informative and genuine, instead of a scripted tour, she engaged the group in real conversations.

This was truly an amazing tour and our tour guide Jordi had so much information and was so passionate when he was telling the history of everything. I recommend this full day tour to anybody visiting Barcelona as it covers the most important attractions. We loved it...and just to note we had children with us and its kids friendly, a 9 and a 5 year old :)

Things to Know Before You Go

  • This site is a must-see for first-time visitors.

  • Ticket lines can get long, so it’s a good idea to book in advance and consider skip-the-line admission.

  • Eating, drinking, and smoking are prohibited on the basilica grounds.

  • While photography is permitted, the use of a tripod is not without prior permission.

  • Much of the basilica and museum are wheelchair accessible, but the towers are not.

How to Get There

The Sagrada Familia is centrally located near the Sagrada Familia metro stop on lines 2 and 5. It’s also easy to reach on foot from just about anywhere in the old city. The main entrance sits along Carrer Marina in front of the basilica’s nativity facade.

When to Get There

The Sagrada Familia is open throughout the year but can be extremely busy in summer, so a skip-the-line ticket is recommended. The facade looks markedly different when illuminated at night than it does during the day, so plan for at least a short visit during both periods. Note that the basilica holds an international mass each Sunday morning in several languages; entrance is free, but space is limited.

Visiting the Sagrada Familia Museum

The basement beneath the passion façade houses a museum covering the temple's construction through drawings, photographs, and plaster models. Entry to the museum is included in basilica admission, and visitors can see the working modeling studio where Gaudi’s restored maquettes are reproduced to aid in the structure’s ongoing construction.
