The Basics

Sitges is a popular day-trip destination from Barcelona. While some visit independently, other travelers opt for the convenience and enhanced experience of a guided tour, with many including add-ons such as a visit to the Roman ruins of nearby Tarragona. Most day-trippers come for the sandy beaches, but the old town is also home to numerous galleries and boutiques, as well as several excellent museums. Most notable is the Cau Ferrat Museum, which tells the story of the town’s early years as an art colony.

Tarragona and Sitges Tour with Small Group and Hotel Pick Up
I highly recommend this tour. We were blown away by the Roman aqueduct and the view of the Mediterranean from Tarragona. Vicente, our guide, was very knowledgeable on the history and also entertaining. Sitges had beautiful beaches. The timing of the tour was excellent and it was very convenient that they picked us up at our hotel.

Tarragona and Sitges Tour with Small Group and Hotel Pick Up
Our guide Gaspar was both knowledgeable and personable and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit of these two unique, historic Catalonia cities. Not only did Gaspar guide us through the most visited areas, he showed us some of the more out of the main stream stops that made the trip even more memorable. We highly recommend this tour and again thank our tour guide Gaspar for taking such good care of us and giving us such a magical day.

Fabulous Day with David

Montserrat and Sitges Tour from Barcelona with Cable Car and Easy Hike
This combination of two very different sites--the mountain sanctuary of Monserrat and the seaside village of Sitges made for a wonderful long day. It was.made even more special by our guide and driver, David. His English was great and his personality outgoing and bonding for our group of 4 couples who didn't know each other. Comfortable van. Lunch not included in Sitges but delicious. Only advice is the hour longhike down the mountain is a bit rigorous on the knees. An alternate if you don't feel in hiking mood or shape is the art museum at the base of the gondola. Wonderful paintings. An unforgettable day!

Tarragona and Sitges Private Day Trip from Barcelona
Awesome day exploring a Roman wall with nobody else around but our tour guide jordi. He was great, he took pictures and filled us with information. We visited an ancient amphitheater and old Catalunia! He recommended a place to eat lunch near the beach, and had plenty of time to go walk around on our own. A beautiful coastline in Sitges!

Tarragona and Sitges Private Day Trip from Barcelona
Our guide, Arnau, was very pleasant and knowledgeable about Terragona and it's history. I would have liked to have had a tour of the old town of Sitges instead of time on the beach area. It took so long to have lunch in Sitges that there was no time to go to the old town.

Not for Fall

Roman Tarragona and Glamorous Sitges Small Group Tour from Barcelona
Tarragona was fantastic, lots of history in a compact area to see. However Stiges and the other random town they stopped at are simply not that enjoyable in the Fall. If you can't enjoy the beach- there is not much to do there. Lots of free time in both locations, which IMO means if you want to go there, hop on the train and do it, no need to tour.

Roman Tarragona and Glamorous Sitges Small Group Tour from Barcelona
Exploring the aqueduct was a highlight of my day. From my latin books on roman history to real life. Very cool! Also enjoyed Tarragona but would have loved more time there compared to Stiges since I had not planned on going to the beach but truly overall a great trip with our wonderful guide Steven.

Angela was an amazing tour guide. We were lucky enough to have her on another tour. We walked the town and she knew every little detail about the entire town. I would highly recommend this tour AND Angela.

When to Get There

Sitges is a year-round destination. In July and August, the town becomes one giant beach party, perfect for lazing in the sun by day and reveling in the cranked-up nightlife after dark. The volume gets turned up once again come Carnaval in Catalonia, when a 250,000 people descend on the town for a week of parades, shows, and parties. Horror, sci-fi, and fantasy fans should plan to visit in October during the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival.

Do Your Beach Research

Sitges has 17 beaches, ranging from family-friendly to clothing-optional stretches of sand. The beaches directly in front of the town center and those on the eastern end tend to be the best for families, while the beaches to the west tend to attract nude swimmers and sunbathers. Women can and do go topless all along the coast.
