The Basics

A visit to the Blue Grotto is a must for visitors on a day trip or shore excursion from the Amalfi Coast, Naples, or Sorrento. You can reach the cave by water or land, but to enter the cave, you must board an official rowboat. Due to the high number of visitors, wait times can stretch for hours, though passengers of private boat tours are often given precedence. Book your boat transfer to and from the Blue Grotto in advance to avoid long lines, or reserve a private tour with a boat ride around Capri and the Faraglioni rock formations.

Nice family trip
Was really helpful to meet the guide at the port and not have to figure out the ferry ourselves. Everything was well planned but also relaxed and flexible, with options depending on our preference. The guide helped us manage our two small children and have a fun day for everyone.

Top 3 day of our lives

Capri Blue Grotto Boat Tour From Sorrento
We met our boat Captain Sebastiano and his Officer Pasquale at the pier in Sorrent. They were on time and we started right away to board the small yacht which was in very good shape. We started at 08:00 in the morning to be the first to enter the blue grotto which was a great experience. After that we corcled the island and went off-ship to swim in the beatifiull azzurian water. Around noon we departed at Marina Piccola, from where we Tool a Bus to the town of Capri which is very beautiful though a little expensive but definitely a must-see. We gad four hours on our own to discover any part of the island we wanted to. After that we met again on the boat and drove right through the arc of the famous Faraglioni (Sebastiano is a great sailor and played Pavarotti during the passage). We stopped at another great point to swim a little and bath in the sun. After that we went back to Sorrento. The crew: Sebastiano and Pasquale were both very kind, funny, helpful and attentive. Even though they did the tour a lot of times it really seemed like they had a lot of fun too. Maybe that is the reason the tour went 10 hours instead of 8! In comparison we had one of the greatest days of our lives on this tour. The boat, the crew, the Mediterranean Sea, the island and the weather were just all perfect! Also the beverages (including beer, secco, limoncello) and the lunch at Marina Piccola were included. We don't know each other but please do this tour, you will not regret it!

Small-Group Capri and Blue Grotto Tour from Sorrento
This was an excellent experience booked with this company. I would do it again. Their customer service was brilliant and they really help to make you enjoy the experience to the fullest. We were on a beautiful size boat with a small group which was perfect because it meant we could all make the most of our time on the boat. They even provided a couple of beers and a sandwich which was delicious. Capri is a must see with this company.

Capri Blue Grotto Boat Tour From Sorrento
So good that we would go again. Rendezvous point was easy to find and once everyone had arrived we were on our way. Sights were fantastic - Blue Grotto, Green Grotto, White Grotto, Cave of Love, Marina Piccola, Capri and the Faraglioni. We stopped to swim twice and still had a lot of time to visit Capri.

Capri Coast to Coast: Discover the Island from the Sea with Blue Grotto Option
Amazing tour and compared to Capri prices, this is very affordable. The trip goes around the whole island and the Tourguides are giving great guidance in Italian and Englisch. It was just a shame that the Blue Grotto was closed due to high waves.

Capri and Blue Grotto Day Tour from Naples or Sorrento
We had a wonderful time on our trip despite the weather not being the greatest. Michele our guide was well experienced and passionate about Capri. He was able to change a adapt the tour to the weather forecast and this ensured that we got the very best trip possible.

Excellent day trip. Boat ride was the highlight of the day. Beautiful scenery. Total of 3 couples on the craft gave us plenty of room. Got us to the Blue Grotto early with very little time waiting to get in.

Capri and Blue Grotto Day Trip from Sorrento
Our guide was good and knew the best timing for our tour around Capri and the blue grotto. Our only wish would have been to spend more time in the blue grotto, it was very quick

Things to Know Before You Go

  • At the cave entrance, you must purchase a ticket from the floating ticket office and board a rowboat to enter. This is included in most boat tours.

  • Due to the low cave entrance, the Blue Grotto is only open when weather conditions permit.

  • You’ll have to wait to enter the cave aboard small, open-air rowboats, so bring a hat and sunblock.

  • The journey to the Blue Grotto is not recommended for those who suffer from seasickness.

  • Once inside the cave, many rowboat skippers will treat you to a serenade for a small tip.

How to Get to the Blue Grotto

You can reach the Blue Grotto by sea from the Marina Grande port or by land from the town of Anacapri.

When to Get There

The cave is most crowded in summer and during the midday hours, so plan to visit first thing in the morning to avoid a long wait to enter. Note that the Blue Grotto is open only when sea conditions permit, so when the waters are rough or there are high winds, the cave may close with no advance warning.

Capri by Land

The Blue Grotto can only be visited by sea, but the island of Capri has a number of attractions on land, as well. Take an island tour of Villa San Michele, with its sweeping views over the Mediterranean, the lush Gardens of Augustus, and the 14th-century Charterhouse of San Giacomo.
