The Kia Oval
Don’t miss the chance to catch a match at the Kia Oval. International games sell out quickly and can be expensive, so opt for a local match if you just want to experience English cricket.
Behind-the-scenes experiences aren’t just for cricket fans—tours of the ground also explore the site’s football and rugby history, and typically include access to the stands, dressing rooms, and club museum. Book in advance to secure a slot that suits you. Or, take advantage of package deals and combine your visit with other city sporting attractions, such as Twickenham Stadium or Lord’s.
Things to Know Before You Go
The Kia Oval is a must for sports fans.
The Oval is accessible to guests with disabilities; contact the venue in advance to make arrangements.
Babies under age 2 get free admission; strollers must be folded and can’t obstruct passages or seating.
How to Get There
The best way to get to the Kia Oval is via public transit, as parking is available only for Blue Badge holders. Take the Northern underground line to Oval station, about a 2-minute walk from the venue, or the Victoria line to Vauxhall station, a 10-minute walk away. Local buses 36, 185, and 436 also stop directly outside the ground.
When to Get There
The English cricket season runs throughout summer, when T20 matches are held regularly at the Oval. Traditionally, when the Ashes are in England, the last Test match is played there too, though tickets can be hard to get. Ground tours take place every Friday and Saturday, except match days.
London’s Oldest Still-in-Use Sports Grounds
Iconic as the Oval is, it’s far from being London’s oldest still-in-use sports venue. A strong contender for that title is the city’s other cricket ground, Lord’s, which was built in 1814. Older still is Royal Blackheath Golf Club, which has been on record since 1766, but may date back to 1608.
