The Basics

A popular day trip destination from Marrakech, the Ourika Valley is often visited as part of a full-day tour of the Atlas Mountains. Combine it with a thrilling drive along the Kik Plateau and a stop at Lake Takerkoust, or take an Atlas Mountains Four Valleys tour and visit the Ourika, Oukaïmeden, Sidi Fares, and Asni valleys.

Alternatively, savor your visit on a hiking or mountain biking tour, explore the Berber village of Setti Fatma, trek to the Setti Fatma Falls, or visit in winter to enjoy the ski resort of Oukaïmeden.

Great day trip
Hasan was a great guide, very knowledgeable. We were in a small group and stopped at an Argan Oil co-operative on the way - no pressure to buy. Ourika Valley and the mountain hike was great - need to be in good physical shape for some parts. Amazing views. Lunch was a set price menu - more expensive than you’d usually pay - 120 dirhams each. Stopped briefly at a Berber house on the way back. Great day out and nice to be away from the busyness of Marrakech for a while.

Cooling off and chilling in Ourika :-)

Marrakesh : Day Trip To Ourika valley
Pick up on time outside my riad, comfortable transport in air conditioned SUV. We first stopped for tea and breakfast at a traditional Berbère home where the lady of the house prepared tea and we got a tour of the house, it's really interesting to see how people live in the valley and they are very welcoming. Then we stopped at the argan oil shop where you can also find the famous black soap and other spices and products. These are all natural and proper products unlike the crap you find in the Marrakech souks so I definitely recommend buying from there. Next we arrived at the Ourika valley for a hike to the first waterfall (about an hour and a half long). The hike is manageable and it's cool up there so we didn't suffer from the heat. On the way and up there you can stop for shopping at the local artisanal shops and cafés, and cool down in the natural pools and waterfall and enjoy the stunning views of the Atlas. Our guide Khalid was really friendly and knowledgeable, he took loads of photos and videos! After the hike we went to one of the restaurants just by the riverbed which was lovely (tagine & couscous on the menu of course!). Perfect day outside of town, great to escape the scorching heat of Marrakech. Thanks a lot to the organiser Youness and the driver Kamal, I definitely recommend this tour!

From Marrakech : Day trip to Ourika Valley Atlas Mountains
We had a lovely experience on this day trip. Pick up was prompt and both our driver and guide were friendly and welcoming throughout. The highlight was definitely the hike up to see the waterfalls. Although a little strenuous at times, it was well worth it. We also quite enjoyed the visit to the argan oil collective.

Half Day Tour From Marrakech to the Atlas Mountains & Ourika Valley
This is a great trip to give you an introduction to the foothills, Berbers, note the climb to the waterfalls can be tricky for some, but the local guide is very helpful. Our main guide, Aziz, was excellent and was very knowledgeable about the area and its history. Definitely recommend.

Ourika Valley Private Day Tour including Lunch from Marrakech
Brilliant tour and guide, Younes! We went to the waterfalls and valley of Ourkira. It was a lovely trip taking in a visit for breakfast to a Berber house as well as lunch by the river in the sunshine next to the mountains. Younes made us feel safe arguing with a local when he gave us bad water! 5*

Small-Group Day Trip to Ourika Valley from Marrakech
Beautiful trip and very helpful tour guide, worth the money and more. For anyone complaining about being stopped off at specific restaurants or stalls and feeling like a con/rip off, you don't have to buy anything you don't want to and can simply walk across the road to one of the many other places, or bring a packed lunch! This was a real experience and I'll be going back for sure!

Guided Ourika Valley Day Trip from Marrakech
Great experience! The driver was on time and very kind. We stopped at an Argon Oil Cooperative where another young man told us about the plants they use to create all natural medicines. Then we got back into the car and drove to the mountains where we met another guide who took us up the mountain. Considering I took my aging parents with me, the guide helped us up and down the mountain, constantly holding ours hands to help us. The view was beautiful and we finished off the trip with a lunch with our young driver who then drove us back to the hotel. It was Great!

You get to walk through the mountain, you have quite a few stops for pictures, you will see a waterfall, be able to shop, etc. It has a little bit of everything to make a perfect day trip! Beautiful scenery.

When to Get There

Time your visit for a Monday, when the local market (souk) of Tnin Ourika sprawls through the village and a mix of locals and tourists haggle for goods, sip sweet Moroccan mint tea, and catch up on gossip. The prettiest time to visit is in spring (February to April), when the valley is speckled with colorful wildflowers and the surrounding cherry and almond orchards are in full bloom.

Highlights of the Ourika Valley

For many visitors, the Ourika Valley’s principal attraction is its traditional Berber settlements. The village of Setti Fatma maintains a traditional way of life, tending to its communal saffron farm and organic herb farm, producing handicrafts to sell, and serving traditional tajines and breads in local restaurants. At the heart of the valley are the dramatic Setti Fatma falls, which flow into the Ourika River and offer a thrilling scramble for adventurous travelers.
