The Basics

The Road to Hana connects the towns of Kahului and Hana, hugging the coast for a distance of 64 miles. It’s famous for its difficult driving terrain and spectacular scenery. Highlights along the route include the seven sacred pools of Oheo, the Twin Falls waterfall, the black sand beach at Wai’anapanapa State Park, Honomanu Bay, and the Hana Lava Tube.

Driving along the route can be challenging for more inexperienced drivers, so if you’re not confident or don’t feel like spending an entire day behind the wheel, consider joining a guided full-day tour. For a more glamorous option, you can also get a bird’s eye view on a helicopter tour.

Hana Road Tour
Charleston was a great tour guide. He enlightened us with the history of Maui, told a few jokes and we could tell he loves his island. I would suggest if every tour guide, if not already, would give the history of Maui of the Hawaiian people. We would recommend a tour with this company.

This excursion is a must do if visiting Maui! The black sand beach was amazing and this tour was the perfect way to experience the local culture. Our tour guide Malia was great! Our guide, Charmaine (forgive me if spelled incorrectly) made this trip so fun and pleasurable. She was very conscientious of our safety at all times and is one badass driver on the road to Hana. So glad we chose to do a guided tour and not attempted this ourselves. Some parts are really treacherous. Charmaine, being a lifelong resident of Maui, knows the island and its history so well. Thank you for a great trip and making sure we were all fed well.

Our experience is as fantastic. From start to finish the tour was even more than we expected. Our tour guide Scott made everything even more memorable. He was great at engaging everyone, helping with pictures and ensuring everyone’s safety. He really made the trip that much better. Would HIGHLY recommend. The day is broken up nicely with the fantastic helicopter tour on the way back.

Road to Hana Adventure
What a memorable road trip to Hana rainforest. Amazing and memorable views through-out. The tour driver Sale made great effort to explain a lot about Hawaii customs, and unique flora and fauna. Very friendly and helpful. There was so much to do and see. My family's favorite stops were the black sand beach and fresh waterfall pool.

Road to Hana Luxury Mercedes with Waterfall Swim, Black Sand Beach and Lunch
Very enjoyable day trip for seeing the highlights of the picturesque Road to Hana. Quinn, our driver and guide, was very knowledgeable about Maui's history and a safe driver. The only improvement would be to offer a few more momentary stops to take photos. Packaged lunch was adequate.

The scenic views were the highlight of the trip. Breathtaking views looking out to the Pacific Ocean. Waterfalls, mountains, and vegetation. The road is very narrow and the turns are sharp. Our tour guide Kaili was very professional and very skilled driver.

Walk Through the Hana Lava Tube

Lava tubes—natural tunnels formed by cooling volcanic lava flows—are only found in a few places in the world, including Hawaii. Explore the Hana Lava Tube (officially called the Ka’eleku Caverns), with flashlights to see about a third of a mile of unique geological formations, including “lavacicles” and a famous area that looks like molten chocolate.
