Top Wineries in Sonoma
Wine lovers will not want to miss a trip to the Napa Valley’s counterpart: Sonoma. We've got you covered with a rundown of the top regions.
The Benziger tasting room’s main bar offers paid wine-tasting sessions, but the winery’s enhanced tastings and tours offer more in-depth experiences. A favorite is the Biodynamic Vineyard Tram Tour, a 45-minute exploration of the vineyards with a tasting. Additionally, the 1.5-hour Tribute Estate Tour provides a behind-the-scenes look at the winery with barrel tastings and a private seated tasting in the wine cave.
So you don’t have to worry about driving after enjoying some tastings, book a wine country tour that includes transportation; most depart from San Francisco, Napa, or Sonoma. Some include tasting fees as well. Private tours are also available, if you’d like to select which wineries you visit. Alternatively, you can simply head to Benziger independently to learn about the family’s biodynamic winemaking philosophy and sample the wines.
Benziger Family Winery is ideal for wine enthusiasts and those who appreciate organic, biodynamic farming.
If you’re visiting Benziger on your own, it’s recommended that you make a reservation for the tram or estate tour.
Benziger is accessible to wheelchair users.
Benziger Family Winery is located 2 miles (3.3 kilometers) west of Highway 12, one of Sonoma County’s main roads. The winery is 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of San Francisco. Best access is by car, guided tour, or the Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley, which typically stops at Benziger and three other wineries.
The tasting room is open from 10am to 5pm daily. The tram tour departs several times a day. Try to visit on a weekday to avoid waiting in line for tastings.
Make time to enjoy the delights of Glen Ellen. The postage-stamp-sized town is home to a few popular restaurants, a nice market where you can pick up food to go, and the historical saloon at the Jack London Lodge.
