Museo del Confetto Mucci Giovanni
Take a guided tour of the Museo del Confetto Mucci Giovanni to learn about the company’s production of traditional confetti, like sugared almonds, Jordan almonds, and other candies. Established in 1894, Confetti Mucci Giovanni is one of the oldest confectionery producers in Italy, and the museum is housed in the factory’s original headquarters in the city center of Andria. The four museum sections include a collection of vintage equipment and machinery, as well as exhibits demonstrating the stages of production so you can see how confetti are made from start to finish.
Pair a visit to this factory museum with a tour of Puglia’s most popular cities and attractions, from the bustling port city of Bari and picturesque towns of Alberobello or Locorotondo to the Castel del Monte fortress. Multi-day tours may extend as far as Matera in neighboring Basilicata.
Things to Know Before You Go
Lovers of candy and sweets will especially enjoy visiting the museum and, more important, the showroom and shop, known as the confetteria, to purchase confetti and other specialties.
An art nouveau building in the center of Andria houses the museum, which is surrounded by restaurants and cafés.
The confetteria is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers; the museum is not.
How to Get There
Andria, located just north of Bari, is best reached by car. Park near the main Piazza Umberto I and follow the signs to the Museo del Confetto, just a 2-minute walk through the historic center of Andria.
When to Get There
The museum and adjacent confetteria are open daily but close briefly at midday, so be sure to arrive either in the morning or late afternoon for a tour. The museum also is closed on Sunday afternoons.
Old Town Bari (Bari Vecchia)
Bari is one of the largest cities on Italy’s Adriatic coastline and a major ferry and cruise ship port. Despite the bustling port and urban sprawl, the old town, known as Bari Vecchia, is a delightful maze of tiny lanes and pretty chapels. Highlights include the Romanesque Basilica di San Nicola, Via Sparano, Swabian Castle (Castello Svevo), and Piazza del Ferrarese.
