When we think of ancient civilizations, more often than not we think of Rome. Yet before the Romans, there were the Etruscans who lived in west Italy from the 9th century onward. Their necropolises, or burial grounds, represent much of what we know about not only Etruscan culture but also burial practices from that ancient time.

Depictions of daily life can be found on frescoed walls, and many of the necropolises resemble Etruscan homes. The necropolis of Cerveteri alone has thousands of tomb structures which are arranged as if a small city. It can be navigated in largely the same manner, with paths, city squares, and even distinct neighborhoods.

The nearby Tarquinia necropolis has more than 6,000 tombs carved into rock. Interestingly, these tombs built for death are one of the greatest keys we have to understand how the Etruscans lived. Many of them are the only existing structure of their kind.

From CIVITAVECCHIA PORTO, under your cruise ship, to TARQUINIA and TUSCANIA!

From CIVITAVECCHIA PORTO, under your cruise ship, to TARQUINIA and TUSCANIA!

Compared to the other companies we offer you, pick up by ship without bus and / or other wasted time, entrance paid by us for the attractions visited, we do not offer you lunch simply because it really has a paltry cost, with 20 euros you risk eating so much to feel bad. And sincerely since it is all about genuine food and superlative quality, if we made a convention, we will risk offending the restaurateurs and depriving you of the choice of all excellent dishes! Anyway, after this tour, you would advise all your acquaintances to do it, you will get sensations, smells and feelings that will remain impressed for a long time! Do you think that some American, Canadian and German gentlemen wanted information to buy a second holiday home in these places! We are talking about the new TUSCANY! Don't miss it

Tarquinia, cradle of the Etruscan civilization, is situated in a wonderful position near the Tyrrhenian Sea; it preserves some of an unbroken history from the Etruscan legend of Tagete to present days. Famous and powerful, Etruscan Tarquinia stood on the Civita hill. From here the birthplace of three of the seven kings of Rome: Tarquinio Prisco, Numa Pompilius and Tarquinius Superbus. After its destruction, it has developed the modern town on the opposite hill . Here the medieval Tarquinia knew new glory imprinted in majestic towers, in the sober and elegant Romanesque churches, in the sturdy walls . Minimum of passengers required for this tour 6 people. On Monday all the museums in Italy are closed for day off.

Etruscopolis: Once Were Etruscans

Etruscopolis: Once Were Etruscans

star-5

Etruscopolis is a trip in the bowels of the Earth, along the centuries in the Etruscan Civilization. It is an authentic artistic masterpiece which tries to defeat the strain of the centuries corroding and fading everything fleeting! It is a plunge in the past in the middle of decoreted tombs, homes, secenes of daily life, faithfully reproduced by the artist Omero "the last Etruscan". In fact in the large museum area of Etruscopolis, vases and bronzes of Etruscan inspiration are created not reproduced by OMERO who becomes in this way the continuator of the art of his ancient fathers. The artist Omero has managed to discover the secret of the archaic dough and the ancient manufacturing techniques, so that his creations are authentic even to the most sophisticated tests. For this reason, because of their strong resemblance to the original objects, they are sold with a certificate attesting its provenance like at British Museum or Metropolitan Museum in New york City.

Tarquinia was the most important Etruscan city in the seventh century BC and it is particularly famous for the Monterozzi Necropolis, an ancient cemetery from pre-Roman times which houses more than two hundred painted tombs beneath its green mounds. You will explore imposing halls carved into the rock copying Etruscan houses (Necropolis literally means “City of the Dead”) to admire the bright colors used by the ancient Etruscans to paint landscapes, exotic animals and scenes of everyday life. Thanks to our knowledgeable and passionate guide, you will discover the secrets of the most beautiful and fascinating tombs: the tomb of the Leopards, with its banquet scenes that show the incredible freedom of Etruscan women, the tomb of Hunting and Fishing, which represents the typical activities of the aristocracy, the tomb of the Warrior, where funeral rites are represented (including the cruel games that inspired the subsequent gladiator fights)… Walking through the charming alleys of Tarquinia, dotted with medieval towers and splendid palaces, you will reach Palazzo Vitelleschi, which houses in the National Etruscan Museum the most precious treasures of the ancient city: carved sarcophagi, frescoes, jewels made of gold and gemstones, and the famous Winged horses!

Private Tarquinia&Cerveteri shore excursion from Civitavecchia's port

Private Tarquinia&Cerveteri shore excursion from Civitavecchia's port

The most striking aspect of Tarquinia is undoubtedly the legacy left by the Etruscans. The Necropolis of Monterozzi (the highlight of your visit) dates back around 3000 years and has about 200 painted tombs.Visiting the Necropolis of Tarquinia (inserted onto the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2004, ) is beyond doubt the best way to get to know the magnitude and at the same time the artistic refinement of the Etruscan people. Not less interesting, to learn about the Etruscans, is The Necropoli della Banditaccia, in Cerveteri which has been declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site together with the necropolis in Tarquinia. It covers an area of 400 hectares (990 acres), of which 10 hectares (25 acres) can be visited, encompassing a total of about 1,000 tombs often housed in characteristic mounds. It is the largest ancient necropolis in the Mediterranean area.
