Rotterdam Zoo (Diergaarde Blijdorp)
The Basics
Rotterdam Zoo is large, and it’s worth devoting at least a half-day to fully explore. Wander the grounds and spot rarely seen creatures such as geladas (grass-eating monkeys) and okapis (forest giraffes) in spacious enclosures designed to mimic natural habitats. Time your visit to attend one of the zoo’s animal feedings, bird flying demonstrations, and zookeeper meet and greets—all of which are free for ticket holders. Check the schedule on the day of your visit for details.

When to Get There
Rotterdam Zoo is open daily and busiest on summer weekends and holidays. It’s best to visit when the weather is dry, as much of the complex is exposed to the elements, although you can find shelter at Oceanium aquarium, the Amazonica tropical butterfly garden, and Asia Hall.
