The Basics

Ravello is one of the few towns along the Amalfi Coast not set at sea level, so it must be reached by climbing a steep road up the cliffside. Given the heavy traffic that plagues the Amalfi Coast in summer, consider booking a Ravello tour and leave the hassle of navigating to a professional driver. The town has a number of historic villas and churches that are best appreciated with a tour guide, so join an all-day Amalfi Coast tour or shore excursion from Naples, Sorrento, or Salerno that includes Ravello. You can also take private tours to Pompeii, Mt. Vesuvius (Mount Vesuvius), and other destinations in the surrounding region of Campania from here.

Tour to the Amalfi Coast Positano, Amalfi & Ravello from Naples
I really appreciated the day trip to the Amalfi coast. The guide was very kind and helpful, the bus very comfortable and the driver drove safely. The trip is ideal if you want to visit Positano, Amalfi and Ravello in one day.

Quite delighted experience

Tour to the Amalfi Coast Positano, Amalfi & Ravello from Sorrento
Roberto (Tour Guide) and Pasquale (Driver) were excellent, very easy going and enthusiastics. Driving across the Amalfi Coast is not an easy task, and keeping a 20 people group all day in English and Italian has its challenges. The Tour was diverse, covered all areas as explained in the description and a little bit more. Food were well suggested by Roberto with options to choose. Weather was amazing. We are quite delighted with the experience.

A very enjoyable tour. Roberto was very informative and had a lot of interesting facts delivered in a witty way. Pascale (the driver) was very professional and clearly experienced in driving around the narrow roads. All in all a recommendable trip.

Naples Private Shore Excursion: Amalfi Coast, Positano and Ravello
We were picked up by our driver at the port. He was very friendly and spoke great English. Weather was not our friend as it rained majority of the time but we did not let this ruin our trip. We traveled the Almafi Coast with stops in Positano and Ravello where our driver booked us a great place to go for lunch. Our driver was always ready when we were ready to leave a stop. I would recommend this trip

Amazing experience - Roberto / Giovanni

Tour to the Amalfi Coast Positano, Amalfi & Ravello from Sorrento
Organisation was well done, you receive an email the day in advance to ensure you find your way to the right corner of the Piazza Tasso. Our guide was Roberto and our driver was Giovanni. Roberto is a true expert who will tell you everything about every noteworthy building and place to visit during the trip with a charming italian accent. He puts all his energy into ensuring everyone is having a good time (catering all different kinds of audiences) from the first minute right until the end (we were only back at Sorrento ten hours later due to traffic, and he does this tour five times a week!). Giovanni safely drove us along the Amalfi Coast for the entire day, which is noteworthy as you will see these roads are very narrow with sharp corners (requiring bus drivers to honk their horns every time cars may not see the bus coming behind the corner). The Tour does what it sets out to do very well - give you an experience of the amalfi coast in the course if a day with a good allocation of time for every visited place against a fair price. If you have Roberto as your guide you are also sure to be entertained for the entire day. A word of warning might however be in place in respect of expectations. The centers of Positano, Amalfi and Ravello are quite small and what you can do or see is in the available time is quite limited if you do not enjoy hopping shops for ceramics, linen, souvenirs or limoncello. Roberto made sure to point out all the things that were worth seeing or doing but we nevertheless found ourselves returning to the bus ten to fifteen minutes early at every stop (and I am not sure a longer stay would have provided for mich more to see or do). One of the highlights of the trip was the optional boat tour around the amalfi area, so make sure to opt in for this (price was only about ten euro per person). Overall it was nice to have seen all locations and to have had this wonderful experience with amazing views and entertainment, but to avoid disappointment do not set your expectations too high in respect of what there is actually to see or do in the three locations (the Amalfi cathedral was also closed during our trip). Ultimately, if you want to experience the Amalfi coast in a day, there is no doubt that this is the trip you should book as it gives everything there is to give and nothing more or less.

Tour to the Amalfi Coast Positano, Amalfi & Ravello from Sorrento
Wow - what a great day this was! So incredibly organized and our guide Robbie and driver Pascual were incredible. Robbie keeps you engaged and really has this trip down to a science. We stayed in sorrento which was great to take day trips and explore the surrounding areas. This day really packed it all in, in a good way, where we were able to see 3 amazing areas of the amalfi coast in a convenient way (an all day driver). The free time in each allowed us to walk in the towns and get some souvenirs, not much more beyond that, but that was fine with us - we really just wanted to see it all. I’d reccomend this trip.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Unlike the other villages along the Amalfi Coast, Ravello is relatively flat and easier to explore for those with limited mobility.

  • Bring a hat and sunblock, and wear comfortable clothing and footwear, as much of your time touring Ravello will be spent outdoors.

How to Get to There

Ravello sits on the clifftop above the historic maritime republic of Amalfi and can only be reached by car or bus. No train line runs along the Amalfi Coast, so you must take the coastal bus from Salerno or Sorrento; alternatively, you can take the train from Rome or Naples to Sorrento, and then transfer to the bus. Ferries also run from Sorrento to Amalfi, where you can catch the bus to Ravello. Guided tours usually include round-trip transportation.

When to Get There

The Amalfi Coast is crowded in summer, while during winter, smaller villages like Ravello close up shop. The best times of the year to visit are spring and fall, when sights and restaurants are open but the crowds are smaller. If visiting between March and November, check out the calendar for the Ravello Concert Society's annual season of chamber music concerts.

The Ravello Festival

The annual Ravello Festival is among Italy’s finest festivals and celebrates the music of one of Ravello’s greatest fans, German composer Richard Wagner. He was inspired by the architecture of Villa Rufolo when he stayed in Ravello in 1880.
