The Basics

Outside of festival season, most travelers opt to visit Glastonbury on a day trip from London. Day tours can be combined with other southwest England attractions such as the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Stonehenge, Cheddar Gorge, or the Avebury stone circle. Glastonbury’s star attraction is medieval Glastonbury Abbey, founded in the seventh century and allegedly the burial site of King Arthur. Additional highlights include the 525-foot-high (160-meter-high) sacred hill of Glastonbury Tor, home to the ruins of St. Michael’s Church; the ancient Chalice Well; and the fascinating Somerset Rural Life Museum.

A Wonderful Day with the Family!

Private Day Tour to Stonehenge and Glastonbury
Holy wow, we could not have had a better experience with this trip. Oz was a spectacular tour guide, arrived right on time and was incredibly knowledgeable in all aspects of British history and folklore, and very funny to boot. We spent about an hour and a half at Stonehenge, which was just perfect for the five of us in the group, and then had plenty of time to climb the Tor in Glastonbury and shop around the lovely little shops. Considering how long it takes to get to these places, I couldn't imagine trying to squeeze a third stop on the itinerary. We never felt rushed and were able to enjoy the whole day as a family. If, and when, we come back to London we will definitely look for Oz and any day trips he's hosting!

Chalice Well Garden......and the Pagan Temple

Small-Group Day Trip to Stonehenge, Glastonbury, and Avebury from London
We had the best day out ever! Tony was our awesome tour guide and since it was a small group I feel like we got a lot of information and opportunities that we would have missed in a larger group. Prepare yourself for a long day though and there is no way to spend quality time at most of the stops, just to much for one day. We all ended up agreeing to skip Avebury. We would have had to rush through Glastonbury and then drive way out of the way for Avebury and then tack another hour back at least. I would have loved to have gone there but was even happier spending more time in Glastonbury so it was a great choice. The Chalice Garden is the best. So peaceful and beautiful. A do not miss. We had the extra time to walk to the top of the Tor, which was amazing. I can not imagine stopping there and not walking up it. We even had time for a sit down lunch, which was needed. The very, very best part was that Tony knew of a pagan temple that we got to go in......by far the most amazing place ever!!! So glad we had Tony to let us sneak it in. Our driver was awesome and Tony kept us on track and on schedule and had a ton of interesting information. This was my favorite day trip ever. The meeting place was also easy to find. All in all, the best day trip ever.
