The Basics

You can reach the peak of Mount Teide via cable car or intense 5-hour hike. Lots of full- and half-day tours visit Teide National Park, many of which combine some light hiking with a cable car ride. For more personalized attention, opt for a private tour.

Alternatively, book a stargazing experience to take advantage of the volcano's status as one of the best places in the world to observe the night sky. You can also book a combo tour that includes time in the provincial villages of the nearby Masca Valley.

Teide National Park Adventure
Mario and Tania were the perfect guides fout oir trip with a fantastic walk in the Rocas de la García. Chef Mario prepared an excellent Octopus in a typical Vanarian restaurant where we tasted goathcheese and goathmeat which were superb. Also the dessert was fine. It was a perfect day in Tenerife. Even of you do just onze excursion in Tenerife book this one and your holiday will be unforgettable.

Teide, Santa Cruz and San Cristóbal in Small Group from the south of Tenerife
Thank you Basso Lanzone for making our tour an unforgettable one! We were really lucky to have the kind of travel companions you wish you'll always have. The fact the buss only takes six passengers (and the driver) makes the tour a lot more personal. Bassos style worked perfectly to really add the finishing touches. He was very keen on showing AND teaching us about his island, the flora, fauna and people. We really recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see more then the sands n' beaches of Tenerife. (and if you get Basso, you've hit the jackpot) Thanks again for a awesome tour Basso!

Teide National Park Half Day Trip
Very good guide and pick up arrangements with guides. Be aware that optional cable car tickets are not included and in busy high season may be unobtainable. This should be more clear.

Teide National Park Half Day Trip
Booked online and they rang the next day to confirm. Coach on time. Tour operator knew his stuff and we had a few stop offs for photos. Steady driver made a good trip. Unfortunately the winds were high so cable car was not operating.

Teide National Park Half Day Trip
Great tour with very good amount of time at the top of Mount Teide to enjoy the really stunning views and eat your lunch above the clouds. Last stop at the souvenir shop was a bit unnecessary and I would rather have had more time at Los Roques de Garcia area which was very interesting with lots to see. Lots of pick ups/drop offs at hotels but it was a coach tour so to be expected I guess.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Most guided tours include round-trip transportation from Tenerife hotels.

  • Although the cable car is not strictly accessible for wheelchair users, some visitors find they're able to ride it with the assistance of their travel companions.

  • It's colder on Mt. Teide than on the rest of the island of Tenerife, so dress accordingly.

  • The mountain's lower station, where the cable car ride begins, has snacks, a gift shop, and public restrooms; the upper station has restrooms as well.

How to Get There

Mt. Teide sits in Parque Nacional de las Cañadas del Teide, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's possible to drive to the site, or take the bus from Puerto de la Cruz or Playa de la Americas. Both have one morning departure to the mountain and one afternoon return trip. Alternatively, visit on a guided tour with round-trip transportation included.

When to Get There

There's never a bad time to visit the park, with the average temperature in Tenerife hovering around 73°F (23°C), but be aware that it's often cooler in the park than on the rest of the island, especially at night. Summer is the busiest season at Mount Teide, while springtime visits allow for the chance to see the stunning contrast of wildflowers in bloom at the base of the mountain and snow still gracing the peak.

Teide Trivia
