This partially guided day trip is a great chance to get outside the city while exploring some the amazing scenery and fascinating architecture of the Catalonia region.

Start your day at 8:30am at the bus stop at Pl. Catalunya, in front of El Corte Ingles department store. From there, head to the Colonia Güell, a worker's village first constructed in 1882 by famous Barcelona architect Antoni Gaudí. Enjoy a guided visit inside Gaudí's crypt, a striking church built by the architect but never completed.

Head next to Montserrat, a picturesque mountain-top retreat just outside of Barcelona. Montserrat is also known as the sight of a Benedictine monastery dating to the 11th century and to the Virgin of Montserrat, a religious artifact located in the monastery's Royal Basilica that celebrates this patron saint of Catalonia. During your time at Montserrat, you'll also have the opportunity to ride to highest point of the mountain via the rack railway, where you'll take in fantastic views of the surrounding countryside.

Spend some additional time at Montserrat exploring the site at your leisure, taking a break to sample some Spanish cuisine for lunch (own expense) at one of the nearby restaurants. Your guide will also be available should you have any questions about the site or about the day's itinerary. Your trip will conclude with drop-off back at your original departure point.

+ comfortable bus, air conditioning + detailed booklet with good maps and schemes + info on other tours they organize + Bluetooth headset to hear everything the guide says while walking at your own pace + Friendly, very responsive guide + Gaudí Crypt is empty at the time you visit it. You can take perfect pictures + Tickets to Montserrat Museum included + Personal “box” for the group to watch the boys’ choir, very close to the altar - I wish there’s more free time. I’d rather come back an hour or two later but spend more time in the mountains - The tour was bilingual. The guide had to repeat the same things in both English and Spanish, so everyone got half as much information as they could have in the same time.

Excellent tour and guide, but in November dresswarmly and windproof up at the Monastery. It was wicked cold and windy. Boys choir and historic parts tour very nice, and especially enjoyed Gaudi crypt, seeing formative ideas for the Segrada. Great value.

The best trip to Montserrat and Gaudi Crypt

This trip starts early but is not rushed, very relaxed, allowing you to see the Gaudi Crypt at Colonia Guell before going to Montserrat. In Montserrat you get a tour of the school where the boys choir study and this allows you to access the side of the altar directly in the Basilica without waiting in a queue. You get to see the choir singing before going straight up to see the Black Madonna. An excellent trip with very informative guides both times we took it. Highly recommended.

Our guide Marc was wonderful and knowledgeable. The best part of the tour was the exclusive and private access to Colonia Güell and the Monestary music school and choir performance. We had an excellent day.

A great day out - although we did feel it was a little long...didnt need to have quite so much time at Montserrat. Great to be able to skip the queues and see the Black Madonna...........a little to long wondering through the school boys choir dormitory. Unfortunately they were on school holidays when we were there so didnt hear/see them sing.

This was one of the best day trips during our 2-week trip to Spain. Laila, our tour guide, was exceptional! She explained everything very well and was very much conscientious of the needs of the people in the tour. The tour is well-organized. Everyone is given a one-way bluetooth headset so that you can hear clearly the guide speaking. Colonia Guell was pretty interesting. The church was amazing. The church is a Gaudi masterpiece that you don't hear often but it's worth a visit. Montserrat was wonderful! I think we were lucky because there weren't too many people. It was just unfortunate that the Montserrat boys choir was on break the week we came it was a week after Holy Week and they sang non-stop during Easter week so this was their scheduled break. We had an exclusive tour of the facilities of the boys' choir school and we didn't have to line-up to see the Black Madonna. After the tour, we literally came out just beside the huge altar and had an unobstructed view of the altar and 1PM prayer.

We had a terrific tour. The balance of guided time versus free time was perfect, both at the Colonia and at Montserrat. Our guide was very knowledgeable, and enhanced our appreciation of both destinations. It was a delight to hear the boys choir sing. I recommend this tour highly.
