Upon your arrival at the Sheraton Keauhou Bay, you’ll be shown to your table and given a shell lei as part of your welcoming greeting. From the expansive gardens outside the hotel, drink in views of the Pacific Ocean and hear the rustle of palms, as you casually sip on a tropical drink and enjoy the afternoon activities.
When it’s time to eat, the luau buffet includes a filling arrangement of traditional Hawaiian cuisine, from ahi poke to kalua pork or pineapple-soy glazed beef. Try the poi and eat like locals — using only two fingers — and cap off the meal with a delicious helping of Kona coffee chocolate cake.
After dinner, take a journey back in time to the days of ancient kings, who lived, vacationed and were born on this coast and ruled from its rocky shores. In 1825, King Kamehameha III was born here in Keauhou Bay, and part of the show is devoted to honoring the historic Hawaiian monarch. You’ll also here tales of surfing the waves of nearby He’eia Bay, as well re-live the Battle of Kuamo’o that took place in Northern Kona. At the end of the night, stare in wonder as Polynesian fire dancers twirl rhythmically with the drums, and enjoy the live music, hula and song of this Big Island luau on the coast.
