Once in a Lifetime Experience!

My family and I went to Hawaii seeking adventure, and the Mauna Kea Summit was a great addition to our plans! Hunter was a fantastic guide...extremely knowledgeable about the mountain, as well as the stars (he gave an awesome lesson on the stars in the sky). The hour drive up the mountain went fast as he gave interesting facts about the area, while we took in the breathtaking views from the bus. At the top of the mountain, the views were like nothing I've seen before. Above the clouds to witness the sunset was incredible. After the sun set, we headed down the mountain a bit but were still high enough above the clouds to have a spectacular star gazing experience. Hunter (with his background in astronomy) was able to point out all of the constellations in the sky with his laser pointer...a great learning experience... The seven hour tour is a time commitment while on vacation, but certainly time well spent!

We were very lucky on a clear night and the domes started opening up and moving around! Great experience!

Aloha Holly_F, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. The Observatories are a really cool site to see. Mauna Kea has the largest collection of observatories because it is the best place to view the stars. Thank you for your wonderful review.

Aloha Nuha_A, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. Mauna Kea is a great place to see the stars. Being above the clouds and near the equator we see a lot more of the sky than the continental United states. Thank you for your wonderful review and recomendation.

Beautiful, fun, and educational! It was a long excursion but well worth it. Very cold at the top, so layers were helpful, and the jackets/gloves/hot chocolate that were provided were appreciated! Guides were knowledgeable and friendly

Hunter was incredibly knowledgeable, and it was obvious how much he enjoyed teaching all of us about Hawaii and astronomy. He was attentive & made sure everyone was taken care of. If you get carsick, this is not the tour for you. Be sure to dress warmly. It’s freezing up there!

Aloha Carol_C, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. Hunter is an awesome tour guide. His passion for astronomy allows him to point out things many of us don't even know about. Thank you for your tips to dress warmly and your wonderful review.

Bronson (our guide) was so knowledgeable and shared a lot of information about the land and the culture of Hawaii, as well as the science of the observations and constellations. I am a high school science teacher (chemistry, physics and astronomy) and he was spot on with all of his explanations.

Aloha Jessica_R, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. Wow that is awesome that you can verify all that Bronson talks about. We are very lucky to have him as our tour guide. He constantly studies to prepare for the nights tour. The sky is constantly changing and he keeps up to date with the nights sky. Thank you for your awesome review.

We (including the grumpy teenagers) thoroughly enjoyed our tour. Our guide, Bronson, was super fun and professional. He was so knowledgeable and could answer questions on many topics including geology, astronomy, biology, and the native Hawaiian folklore

Drink lots of water with you! You will dry up at high elevation. Stop at 9200 elevation and talk to the rangers! They have lots of info about the peak and Hawaiian believes.

Great tour with 2 amazing tour guides! Sunset was gorgeous and the sky was so clear. We saw so many stars and constellations. The telescope also helped a lot. I strongly advise!

Aloha Guillaume_P, Thank you for taking the time to review our tour. We are very fortunate to be able to do this tour. At 13,700 feet we are above the clouds so we have the best sunsets. The elevation also helps with the stargazing. Thanks again for your wonderful review and recommendations.
