Came to the island looking for stars, was not disappointed.

An enjoyable evening with good people and unreal views of space. Pack warm cloths, although it was not unbearably cold.

Amazing views and pictures.

Very cool stargazing and James was very personable and funny. The pictures we received were amazing. We loved having a smaller group and the option of driving to the location ourselves so we didn’t have to be with a big group of strangers for 8 hours like some of the other tours. My one and only suggestion would be to bring out some hiking chairs to make looking up (because you will do this for 2.5 hours straight) a little easier on your neck.

Not good!

James was fixated on the theory of a big galactic explosion that he believes is the reason we exist today, and when I explained that God created man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils, then he became a living soul, he became offensive and stated that this is not about Christianity. He became fixated on the stars and their astrological significance as it relates to mythical horoscopes; it was at that point I left and did not want to subjected to any further of his mythologies. I would not recommend this tour, if he is supposedly to be the guide.

Great way to spend an evening!

James is the perfect guide for this tour. Super knowledgeable and provides everyone with information about our galaxy. He personally checks the weather/moon charts for each individual tour to ensure the best conditions are met so you can be sure you have an amazing tour. Takes you to locations that are not filled with a bunch of other tours/people so you have the place to yourself. He also uploads all the photos extremely quickly, and they come out amazing! I would highly recommend this tour.

Wonderful experience

My wife and I had a great time last night on Mona Loa watching the stars with James Ward as the leader. James was very patient with us, a couple in our 70's, and a family of 5 with two small kids. His skill with a very good camera was amazing. The evening was chilly and sometimes cloudy but that was not a problem at all. That James could get images of galaxies we could see through his camera was amazing. At first I thought we would be on Mona Kea near the big observatories but James was right in taking us to an isolated spot on Mona Loa where our viewing was uninterrupted by passing traffic or other groups. From that spot, we got a wonderful view of Mona Kea in the moonlight with the top half above the clouds. We are going home today after two weeks on Maui and the Big Island. Of all, we have seen and done this experience was one we will fondly remember for a long time.

Awesome experience. If you plan to book a stargazing night on the big island and pick someone other than James for your night you will have missed out on a sky full of memories.

Amazing photos

James was very professional and knowledgeable. He has all the equipment to take wonderful pictures. The meeting point was a little confusing as the pin he sent us took us to the middle of the road. I am glad we went early to check out the place and texted him. He resent the pin and everything turned out good. Perhaps some directions or description of the meeting point will help. This is our first time there and it was really dark. The photos were amazing, although James had to touch up one of our photos. We were hoping to hear more stories about the different stars. Oh.... It is really cold, standing out there for 1.5 hours.
