This tour deserves more than 5 stars because they (Ashley & Jason) went above and beyond my expectations before we even started our adventure. From the very beginning Ashley was super sweet and very helpful. When we missed our pick up time she helped us meet Jason at a different location and we made it right on time for the tour. Thank you Ashley! When we finally got to Jason, he right away was super warm, friendly and understanding. He was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Hawaii and Mauna Kea. (He also gave us a ride all the way back to our hotel) We will be forever grateful for that! Thank you Jason! The sunset and stars were breathtaking and unbelievable. I would say it’s the best place to watch the sunset. We definitely will be coming back. Lastly to add, the food and snacks were warm and delicious!

The directions for pick up where all wrong and we drove to Kona and back for an hour for nothing and paid 5 dollars to park for 5 mins at your direction. But the tour was excellent and the guide Jeff was great. Views were fantastic

I don’t think I have ever had a more sublime experience being there, on top of the clouds, next to the snowed mountains. The altitude did not bother me so much. I suggest to take some baby aspirins before going up there.

Sunset above the clouds!

Definitely recommend this trip! We started the trip w our guide Jeff around 2:15pm & got back around 11pm. On the drive up Jeff explains a lot about the lava, volcanos and over all history of the island. Once we got to the summit, we saw the most gorgeous sunset standing above the clouds on top of the biggest volcano in the world. The giant observatories were opening up and moving which was cool to see. Being above the clouds and seeing the sunset was a first for us. It’s a must! You can do this only in a few places in the world. After the sun set, we looked through the telescope and saw stars, constellations and the moon. It was a bright night so unfortunately couldn’t see much of the Milky Way. Dinner was surprisingly very good and hot (in temperature), which we had before getting to the summit. The parkas, that were provided, kept us warm. It was definitely below freezing so prepare accordingly. Definitely a fun and unique experience!
