Interestingly spooky tales of a haunted city with a sad past
Gina_J
, Nov 2020
Our guide was so knowledgeable about Charleston history that it gave me pause to see history in a different light. Years ago, my daughter did a project on ghost stories of SC & I thought I knew all the haunted spots of Charleston. I found out that I didn't know them all which made it all the more interesting. My only drawback is that we had a fairly large crowd for a pandemic & many others were not wearing masks nor were they asked to wear them. I would have given this 5 stars if I would've felt safer around people who had traveled from other states.
Response from Host , Nov 2020
Gina, thank you for joining the Supernatural Charleston tour! An outdoor walking tour is one of the healthiest and safest activities people can do during a pandemic (rather than be indoors with stagnant air). Your guide wears a mask at all times and asks that guests do as well. We have not had any major issues with people not wearing masks. There are people who have religious or other exemptions to masks or need to take their masks off to drink (or for other reasons). We ask them to be respectful and socially distant. If you are spooked by non-mask wearers in public, we suggest you book a private tour so that we can better accommodate you, more easily control the variables, and be as sensitive as possible to your concerns. As the Greek physician, Hippocrates, who coined the oath "First, do no harm", wrote, "Walking is Man's best medicine". We hope to see you again in the Holy City. Safe travels!

Historical and seem to very knowledgeable about sites and Charleston as a whole; however, there was no scare factor even though it was a "haunted" tour. Good experience overall I would recommend this tour for a family looking for a tour for all ages.
Response from Host , Nov 2020
Hi, Shawn, thank you for joining the tour. Everyone has their own sensitivity to emotions around supernatural tours. The main purpose of these tours has always been to provide an enchanting venue for Charleston's rich cultural history- the evening setting, folklore, and ghosts generally speak for themselves. We look forward to your return to visit with your family again in the Holy City!

Mediocre
VAS

The history of the area was interesting, but the tour guide was somewhat disorganized and repetitive. We barely covered any of the area either, partly because we waited for 15 minutes for a late group and then the guide repeated what we had already heard. It definitely felt more like a history tour than a ghost tour. A couple of other things: a member of the group smoked an extremely smelly cigar and was not told to put it out. My daughter had the choice of trying to listen or get away far enough so she could breathe (she has asthma.) The tour guide left us at the end of the tour and took off down the street, and we had to make our way back to the meeting point.
Response from Host , Nov 2020
VAS, we're sorry you are not happy with your experience. The tour started on time, and the group that joined 10 minutes late did not disrupt the flow or organization on our end. It was a very busy Saturday Halloween full moon night and parking was an issue for anyone trying to roll in with a family of 7 into the center of town at 10 pm. The only repetition was pointing out to them the national historic landmarks as our large group moved to the first stop. If you are aware of a person smoking in the public park coming into your area, you are always welcome to take the initiative as your guide was not breathing your air space or aware of smoke affecting you. There are four acres of outdoor space to move around in or out of the way of smoke in Marion Square. As far as your last complaint, it reads like a false narrative as every group is told at the end of the tour that they can walk back with the guide, and, if not, they can leave from there on their own accord. You either chose not to walk back with the guide and/or did not hear that it is a simple walk straight back on the same street where the tour ends, with no turns, to Marion Square. You are welcome to a refund or a credit for a French Quarter history tour if we did not meet your expectations; you will need to contact us directly. Thank you for joining the tour, letting us know what we can improve on, and we sincerely hope that you and your daughter enjoy your Fall!

Our tour guide was amazing, the history was rich, captured orbs in pictures and even though I was worried our 2 young kids would get bored they were thoroughly entertained and he kept them laughing and engaged. It was a fantastic experience!

MN girl here. Geordie was an amazing guide! I would HIGHLY recommend this tour. So much great historical information mixed with just the right amount of humor and a tinge of sarcasm. -which I love- The walk itself was easy. Thank you again, Geordie!

Nice walk.. very interesting had a great group, very respectful enjoyed. When a guide says he’s not going into politics.. it means he will..
Response from Host , Oct 2020
Thank you for joining the group and your kind words. Tours are historical so, yes, politics, culture, race, and religion are covered in historical context. No guide ever says or said it shouldn't be so. Charleston's history reveals a vast amount of intriguing perspectives over the centuries. This is refreshing because the purpose of a supernatural tour is to visit beautiful, historical, and spooky sites while having fun absorbing local folklore. We hope to see you again in the Holy City soon, James!

Great Tour

I picked this experience because it’s “his tour” and not one through a tour group with hired guides. I learned so much and had a great time looking for ghosts.
Response from Host , Oct 2020
Dawn, thank you for choosing this tour. While the company does hire or work with other seasoned guides from time to time to assist with larger groups or special events, authenticity is the hallmark of a quality experience. It's great to read that you see the value in keeping Charleston Charleston.

My wife and I where the only 2 people on this tour. Mr Buxton was a fabulous tour guide. He is very knowledgeable with Charleston history and it’s ghost spots!!
Response from Host , Oct 2020
Thank you, Brian and Laurie, for joining the late Monday night walk, and for fielding questions about your firefighter experiences. It was refreshing to share stories about Southern folklore in Charleston and the historical details of the great state of Virginia with you two as well. Come back soon!
