Find your way to a local cafe on Broadway in downtown Detroit at 9:30am. Meet your guide and small group of 12 people, your fellow travelers for the urban walking adventure to discover the 'real' Detroit.

Take a stroll around the Broadway area, where you'll see Paradise Valley, Madison Avenue, and Foxtown. Get a look at the Fox Theater and the home of the Detroit Tigers, Comerica Park. Snap photos of the Detroit Opera House and some other landmarks before hopping on the 'People Mover', or Detroit's elevated train, for the ride over the Greektown. Visit an historic church that was a stop on the Underground Railroad, see a casino, and taste some sticky sweet baklava.

Hop back on the People Mover and zip over to Civic Center, where you can see the tallest hotel in the Western Hemisphere, the Renaissance Center, and some famous Detroit sculptures. Stop at the art-deco Guardian Building, where you'll get a peek at the impressive lobby and banking room. Pass the landmark Penobscot Building on your way to the American and Lafayette Coney Island restaurants, where you can order a coney dog like a local.

One last stop is a hotel dating from 1924, before jumping back on the elevated train to your original departure point.

Walk by another landmark, the 47-story Penobscot Building, to American and Lafayette Coney Island restaurants, where you can try a free 'coney dog' - a grilled hot dog with Detroit-style chili, mustard, and onions. Detroit Walking Tour Including Rides on the People Mover

We were a group ranging in age from 45-83. We all were able to navigate the walk and steps - there were several opportunities to sit, if needed. Two of the people in our group were from Finland and while having a grasp of English would not have understood long explanations of Detroit history. Bob was concise, answered all questions knowledgeably and added information when interest was evident.

Very knowledgeable guide

Our guide had a deep knowledge of the history of Detroit, from its founding to the present day. Every question we asked was answered clearly, with additional context. We've gone on a number of tours, and this was definitely one of the better ones. The People Mover was down for maintenance, but that was fine since it gave our guide more time to point out places of interest along our route.

Bob was my tour guide and he is very knowledgeable and presented information in a fun and exciting way. I enjoyed every moment rediscovering the city I was born in but left more than 40 years ago. My sister and I couldn't stop talking about the Detroit we never knew The sights (and tastes!) filled my memory to overflowing. I will reminisce for years to come.(Note: checked that this was a family (teens) visit because there is no option for family no kids.

Excellent walking tour of Detroit. Bruce, our tour guide was friendly, knowledgeable and polite. Note:The Peple Mover does not operate until 12 noon on Sundays, so our tour was all walking. Bruce did a great job of redirecting things professionally and smoothly. ( Our tours started at 930am on Sunday 9/23/18 ). I would highly recommend this tour if you want to get a feel of the city and all it has to offer. Thank you.
