Travel independently to Florence’s Accademia Gallery and use your direct-access ticket to bypass the main entrance lines. Then, explore the art treasures in your own way, at your own pace.

Founded in 1784, the Accademia museum was originally part of an art school, showcasing art to inspire the students of the neighboring Accademia di Belle Arti.

Now open to the public, it today houses some of the Renaissance’s greatest masterpieces, including Michelangelo’s sculpture 'David.' Enter the Hall of the Colossus (Sala dell'Anticolosso), and admire the centerpiece; 'The Rape of the Sabines,' a 1582 sculpture by Giambologna, together with works by Filippo Lippi and del Sarto.

Then, roam around the two floors, seeing the rich wood paintings in the Florentine Gothic room, or the musical instruments exhibition. Visit the Gallery of the Prisoners (Galleria dei Prigioni) to view its unfinished sculptures by Michelangelo, including the Prisoners (Prigioni); four incomplete marble statues each depicting a struggling captive.

At the end of the gallery, stop to take in the star attraction: Michelangelo’s 17-foot (5.17-meter) 'David.' Admire the contours of the marble figure’s muscles and veins, completed, almost unbelievably, when Michelangelo was in his twenties.

Leave the Accademia when you wish, bringing your experience to a close.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Galleria dell'Accademia
Founded in 1784 upon Grand Duke Leopoldo of Lorena's decree, La Galleria dell'Accademia was created to host a collection of antique and modern paintings and sculptures so the students of the nearby Accademia di Belle Arti could pursue their studies in the light of these great masterworks. The Accademia Gallery is situated in parts of the former convent San Niccolò in Cafaggio and the hospice of San Matteo. The Accademia Gallery visit begins with the Sala dell'Anticolosso, where the gesso original of The Rape of the Sabines (1582) by Giambologna is placed. Some paintings such as Christ of Pity by Andrea del Sarto and the Deposition of the Cross by Filippo Lippi can be seen here. From here you reach the Galleria dei Prigioni, a corridor that hosts a series of incomplete sculptures by Michelangelo. At the end of the gallery reigns supreme Michelangelo's David.

Not acceptable
Richard_F
, Jul 2022
The most memorable part is that we booked our skip the line ticket for 10:30 AM and when we went to pick up the ticket at 10:00AM (we wanted to be punctual), they told us we were booked for 11:45. I showed them the confirmation I had printed out and they said it didn't matter what my confirmation said. So we walked around until 11:15 and then got in line with all the other skip the line people. We got in at 12:10 PM. We understand that the place is busy and so sometimes they will run behind, but changing our time to be an hour and 15 minutes later is not acceptable. The exhibit was amazing once we got in, but the ticket process to get there was not.

David is amazing

Simply amazing. You have to see this original for yourself. Be aware there are still lines to get in as they let people in in 15 minute increments so only line you are skipping is the no reservation line. Worth it though as it is only a little more than no reservation and that line was around the building on multiple days I walked by.

Tour Time Change with no advance notification.
Justo_P
, Jun 2022
We had scheduled and paid for a 9 AM entrance time. The night before I get an email notification for my tickets and the time was changed to 12:30. We had other tours scheduled for this time. This is very unacceptable, we were able to convince the ticket office that there was an error on your part and they allowed us to enter the museum 35 minutes later. We were not able to see all that we wanted because of the change you made.

Our time was NOT CONFIRMED- read the fine print - signed up for 10:00 and tickets showed up for 12:15 time slot. We already had other tickets booked at Duomo so we had to skip the David exhibit ! So UPSET!!

There was confusion with getting in line and the staff inside ignoring you until there is actually someone organizing the line to get in regardless if you buy your tickets ahead of time you will have to get in line.

Easy to book and easy to execute. It made the museum visit so much better when the logistics or lines don’t get in the way.

Avoid - scammed
Susan_H
, May 2022
The email which was sent to access the voucher would not allow us to access the voucher. After contacting Weekend in Italy by email had no reply from them. The ticket office at Accademia Gallery tried to ring the given number with no success so we can only assume we were scammed.

The voucher sent by Viator was worthless! I had to contact the tour operator directly to get my TICKETS! I still had problems getting entry tickets at the box office. It took a lot of patience and helpful personnel to get us into the Accadamia!

Worth the skip the line
Shawn_B
, May 2022
Skip the line ticket was definitely worth it to get and see David. The rest of the museum was a good experience but you really are only paying to skip the line so that you don’t have to wait to get in the museum itself. Everyone rushes right to David, we waited and saw the rest of the museum first and then made that our last stop. The crowds were not bad since it was early May and not during the height of season.

Skip the line entry is so well worth the cost for this and any other experience. It beats waiting on line for 45min to an hour. You literally walk right in. The David sculpture is absolutely magnificent to see up close in person. The intricate details are striking.

David is a must see
Philip_S
, Sep 2021
Very little communication from the tour operator explaining how to exchange the tickets it was pure luck we found out by ourselves. The time was changed from 11 to 11.45 without warning or explanation so it was good we checked ourselves.

It was more than I thought when I took this tour. The history and details that our guide told us was amazing. Stepping back in time and feeling small on a scale of time.
