This full-day tour begins in Frankfurt with a 2-hour drive west to the magnificent Eltz Castle, located on the hills of the Moselle River, just south of Koblenz. Eltz Castle is built on a large rock in the middle of the Elzbach Valley — breathtaking in appearance. It is considered to be the ultimate German knight’s castle and has remained in the possession of the original family throughout its entire history — a history of wealth, myths, famous personalities and great art.

Inside the castle, see many of its most popular and beautifully adorned rooms on a comprehensive walking tour.

There’s the study, the dressing room, the hunting room, plus upper and lower halls, a kitchen and countless other rooms of significance, including the Treasury and Armoury, boasting world-class artworks in gold and silver. Outside, see the lush Eltz Forest, a surrounding nature reserve full of rare fauna and flora with a stunning view of the neighboring valley.

After the tour, on the trip back to Frankfurt, stop at a German restaurant along the Rhine River and watch the sun set while relaxing and enjoying a delicious dinner.

Leave Frankfurt by van or coach to Castle Eltz
Duration: 1 minute

Stop At:
Eltz Castle
Leave central Frankfurt and travel by coach to the hills of Moselle River, just north of Koblenz. Your destination is Eltz Castle, a glorious medieval fortress nestled deep in the woodland atop a 230-foot (70-meter) cliff. Rising out of the forest like a fairytale palace, the castle towers over the Elzbach Valley below, and its views are said to be some of the most spectacular in Germany. After traveling for roughly 1.5 hours, hop off your coach and head inside the castle, seeing its key sites on a walking tour. Having been left intact for some 700 years, Eltz Castle remains furnished pretty much as it always had been, so its interior is a delight to see. Admire the living and sleeping rooms, and then walk through the lavish armory room, where nearly 500 pieces of jewelry and ceremonial weapons are displayed. Wander through the hunting room, adorned with bear rugs, and hear tales of the servants who once worked in the castle while exploring the kitchens. Learn about the Eltz family who ordered the castle to be built in the 12th century, and hear how the different branches of the family built their own towers within the castle over the following 400 years. Return to your coach and travel back toward Frankfurt, crossing the Rhine River. Stop at a riverside restaurant and sit down to enjoy a dinner featuring local delicacies and wine (drinks at own expense). Savor the meal while watching the sun go down over the Rhine, and then head back to your coach for the return trip to Frankfurt.

Terrible, they cancel the tour and let me know until the last minute. I wasted my days. My only purpose to flight to Frankfurt was to take this tour. It is better to rent a car and visit the castle on your own

Got to spend time at the eltz castle, I was the only one to sign up so got a private tour. The only bad part wish I had more time at the castles seemed rushed to make sure we got to the free dinner..which was horrible as a chef I would be embarrassed to serve any of the food it is in a crazy tacky restaurant they charge you 5.80 euro for tap water..I saw the people from the tour office all there so they have a deal with the owner...worst food I had in germany by far..they should skip the dinner people want to see castles not horrid food in a tacky setting

This was the worst tour I have ever gone on with Viator. The scenery on the Rhine is beautiful and the Eltz Castle is magnificent, but the tour operator ETS Greenline Frankfurt was awful. The guide was a con man from the start and was always trying to take to other places, at a cost of course. He drove like a madman on very curvy roads and did not commentary about what we were seeing, or what our itinerary was. Choose a different company while in Frankfurt, there are many to choose from, and enjoy what Germany has to offer.

This is a beautiful and well maintained Castle. Unless you like long uphill walks, a shuttle is available to get you within a short walk to the Castle Tour starting point. The guides set a pace that allows one to walk and climb the spiral stairs comfortably. A Cafe is available for snacks and meals. I would have like a more varied menu for the Rhine River Dinner considering the tour price. I thought I would be able to look out over the river. Instead, the River is below eye sight so it might as well have been dinner by a sidewalk.

Had a fantastic day at Eltz Castle. Our guide Jorge was very informative and made sure we were looked after. A delicious 3 course meal at a restaurant by the Rhine River topped it off. Highly recommend this tour. Jorge dropped us off at our hotel even though it was a bit out of his way. Money well spent.

From earlier reviews we knew that our group may be small. My wife, Thomas our guide, and I had a great tour. Obviously we had a very personalized Thomas a great guide and hit on probably more points than would normally be covered. The conversations covered much German history beside evolving into many other subjects. Time flew on the tour and the entire day was very enjoyable including our meal and other stops.

We had a private limousine for only 2 of us. Our guide Thomas was very nice and knowledgeable. The leisure walk from the car park to the castle was beautiful. Eltz Castle is beautiful and is not crowded. Our dinner at the restaurant was good, love the ice wine!

One of the best tours I have ever experienced. Me and my husband did the Eltz Castle tour on Sept 29 with the local tour operator via Viator. Our tour guide Peter Remus was very friendly, kind and knowledgeable. He toured us from Frankfurt to the Eltz Castle and around the beautiful surrounding areas. Excellent tour! Highly recommended. Peter, keep up the good work Lani and Chris

The guide, Peter R, did a nice job of explaining the history, wine and beer industry, scenes etc. He drove a little fast for our American comfort, but perhaps that is the German way. The castle was impressive. Make sure you take the hiking path a scenic walk through the forest, turn a corner and suddenly the castle comes into view. We spent perhaps 1 1/2 hours on the guided tour plus some free time in the castle. The dinner included in the trip was underwhelming...the soup was great but downhill from there. A stereotypical German dinner of too much grease and not enough flavor.

The castle was wonderful. However, there were several problems with the tour. Instead of a luxury air-conditioned coach, four of us plus the driver were crammed into a car, with my adult daughter sitting in the middle of the back seat, which had a large hump running through the floor, for a 1-1/2 hour ride on a tour for which we paid over 200 apiece. Secondly, it turned out that one of the people in the car was not supposed to be on that tour. About half an hour out of the city she asked if this was the city tour. The driver berated her for not realizing sooner that it was the wrong tour, said it was too late to turn around and that she would have to pay the difference in price, about 200 euros, in cash, which she said she did not have with her. I pointed out that it was his responsibility to have checked the tickets and my daughter suggested that we take the woman to the airport, which we had just passed, where she could get the train back to the city. That is what we did, although the driver continued to complain about how inconvenient this was. The last straw was when we arrived at the restaurant for dinner. Both my daughter and I and the other woman on the tour had done a Rhine River cruise that included dinner earlier in the week, and we both had asked before we booked both tours whether the dinners would be at different places. We had been assured that they would be. However, we went to the same restaurant. To make matters worse, the first dinner was roasted chicken with french fries, not exactly a German delicacy, and the second was pork schnitzel, somewhat more German, but still with french fries. I would describe either as the German delicacies referred to in the tour description. The driver contacted his manager, who claimed not to know anything about it and refused to pay for us to go to a different restaurant. I have done many tours with Viator, but if this had been my first Viator experience I probably would not book through you again.

The day trip to Berg Eltz castle with Rhine dinner was very nice. There were only 3 of us taking the tour so our tour guide used his own car which made it very comfortable and personal. The 90 minutes at the castle was enough to take the tour and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. Our dinner at a restaurant on the Rhine was very good. I would recommend this tour to see this amazing castle and enjoy dinner on the Rhine. It was a perfect day.

Amazing tour by private limo for only 3 of us, attentive driver,, the castle is a knights residence castle still owned by the 38 thh generation family, filled with medieval treasures a sight not to be missed, still fully preserved we went through all the rooms climbing up spiral sraicases, just loved the casrle. , then drove along the beautiful river moselle and at the point where it meets the rhine, we crossed by ferry and had a wonderful dinner along the rhine, wonderful day
