Easy going day out

Listing inaccurate as Wicker factory closed - for years! Hence, 4 stars not 5. Guide Cristina genuinely warm and friendly. Tour relaxed and included lunch simple but tasty and reasonable value. Cristina 's knowledge broad and interesting. Several beauty spots visited. Levada walk short but pretty though a bit crowded. Viewpoint at end stunning. Transport not as expected but didn't break down.

Interesting places with 30min levada walking. Part of the trip charm came from the charismatic driver/gued.

Expectations of trip sadly unmet by Madeira Sunseekers.

Tony our guide was very knowledgeable and made the trip entertaining. However, we booked a trip online that indicated a maximum of 8 people on the minibus. This was deliberately chosen as 2 of my group were asthmatic and we wanted to reduce our risk of Covid in crowded areas. In fact there was 18 on our bus which is more than twice the supposed maximum number. We were last onto the bus and my husband was separated from me (at front of bus)and ended up sitting on his own at the back with 3 Germans who did not speak to him. The trip was supposed to be for English speakers only but Tony had to speak in both languages to ensure all passengers given information. The bus was very cramped and both ladies and gentlemen had difficulty in making themselves (and their knees) comfortable during our trip. We opted for lunch at Santanta and were pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity of food presented to us. The scabbard fish and bananas was delicious. Although we had no option but to make the best of the day, I feel let down by Viator on this occasion regarding their choice of local trip supplier - Madeira Sunseekers. I have used Viator many times for trips in various parts of the world and usually get what we pay for. I am very disappointed in the use of Madeira Sunseekers and feel that our trip expectations were sadly unmet in many ways. I eagerly await Viator's response to my complaints.

Cancelled due to car break down
Ioannis_S
, May 2022
Unfortunately I cannot share any experience of the tour. On the day, 35’ after our scheduled appointment we were informed that our car had a break down and that we could not complete the tour. I totally understand that these things happen but for us was a “lost” day as we could not join any other tours. We were offered to re schedule but we had other plans for the rest of our stay. We had a full refund.

East tour

Very good trip; our driver was really informative. We visited so many beautiful places. We stopped everywhere long enough to admire the views. There was a slight delay with pick ups; but I called the office; the lady I spoke to was helpful; informed me the driver is on his way. I can recommend this tour. Would go with the company again.

We really enjoyed our day out with our guide Lucy, who was very friendly and informative. Some stunning views and enjoyable 3 course lunch. Pity the overnight snow prevented us going up the mountain but the ride as far as we could was good. The Levada walk was very busy, and obviously the one which all the tours take. However, it was fun and the view was fabulous. We enjoyed the visit to the rum factory and the tasting, to the extent we actually bought some, a first for us, lol

A healthy dose of tradition

Truly great day! Got off to a slow start when I was accidentally shuffled into the incorrect tour van, but remedied quickly and we were on our way! Unfortunately, I’ve forgotten the name of our amazing guide, but she was local and female and fantastic!! She timed our stops as perfectly as possible with the poor weather and kept the small group in high spirits the entire day. Highlights included the rum tasting and traditional home of Santana.

Not a good day

Lu I was lovely. However the pick up was 50 mins late and we got up early on holiday especially! She had waited for guests who had not even paid and didn’t show up to the detriment of people who had paid. The advertised Wicker Camacho village is closed down so why is it still being advertised. The guide suggested we didn’t do the walk due to bad weather but we did it anyway. Not a tour for people who are well travelled. We didn’t get no meal option and other guests were hanging around while we ate. Meal was poor. Overall not a good day.

Very nice trip. We got a lot of information about the area and Madeira. It would be nice if the trip was drawn on a map that could be accessed online. Lunch was really good and the "Michael Jackson" fish was very good.

Good tour

Good tour with multi lingual driver/guide. We had English,Spaniards & Portuguese on board and he was able to converse with all. Great tour to see the East Side of Madeira with fantastic views. Be aware that the cave lunch mentioned in the itinerary may be changed as due to covid it was no open when we went and were not told in advance and provided an alternative hotel restaurant instead. Overall a good tour and highly recommended but also do the West tour so you complete the total island 😊

Great day, lunch was ok. Really liked the cave setting but the pork dish was too tough to eat. Guide was very knowledgable and nice.

Beautiful sights, average tour
Courtney B
, Jun 2019
Loved the sights we saw on this tour, however the tour itself was average, not much history at all provided about some of the sights, I know as much about the houses of Santana after the tour as I did before going there. I was most looking forward to lunch in the cave restaurant but we got shafted into the front of the restaurant, not in the cave section as I think the cave area was being reserved for another group so that was very disappointing. The food was delicious though. The sights of this tour were spectacular but perhaps go with another operator, not a very memorable experience - positive or negative.
