Raj camel safari in Jaisalmer

The highlight of our 3 week trip to India was the camal safari with Raj. He took care of us from the time we arrived in Jaisalmer. We left Jaisalmer around 3 PM, and rode out to the desert. We visited his home in the Thar desert and then rode camels out into the desert. The desert contains large sand dunes where we camped. Raj built a small fire from sticks and proceeded to cook a 2-hor devour, 4 course meal. I have camped most of my life, but this dinner was exceptional. We slept in the open and as I hope, with dry air and no light pollution we were able to see the galaxy. My wife thought she would reach up and touch the stars they were so bright. He had metal beds to sleep on and it gets cold at night this time of year. But we had plenty of blankets. After breakfast we headed back out of the desert. At the airport the next day, we met a bunch of people who also went on a camel safari, and universally they hated the experience. They thought the safari had too many people (Raj only offers personal trips, e.g. just the 3 of us), thought the guides were rude (Raj and his partner sang songs to us after dinner), and were annoyed that people were driving jeeps by the campsite all night (we did not see any jeepts). When we returned to Jasilmer and Raj invited us to his home for dinner. Enjoyed his hospitality. I can without any hesitation recommend that if you are interested in an over night or longer trip into the That desert, Raj is your best bet for a great experience.
