Madeira Food & Cultural Tour

Our guide Cars was brilliant. She was so knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. The food and drink was brilliant too.

What a fantastic tour, enjoyed every minute. Our guide was very knowledgeable and fun. Very stop gave you a unique taste of Madeira. Would recommend a must for anyone visiting Madeira.

This tour is overpriced and overrated. It was not very informative. The food was mediocre and the amount of food was quite small.

Beautiful tour with fantastic food, a great mixture of traditional foods, wine and history. Even revisited a few of the places afterwards. Jacqueline was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. It gave us a chance to explore parts of Funchal we may have otherwise overlooked. Thank you for making our first day in Madeira a memorable one.

Thoroughly enjoyed this walking food tour! Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, very friendly, and spoke excellent English. All the food we tasted was super delicious. We did everything at a great pace, never too rush, and never too full to eat at our next stop. Highly recommend.

Leena led us on a food and cultural afternoon tour in Funchal, Madeira. We were a small and really diverse group of people from Germany, the United Kingdom, Portugal, and we represented the US. Everyone spoke English and we quickly made 8 new friends for the afternoon – this was a great way to learn about the other activities on the island. The tour started at 1pm in the old town with a full lunch that featured a sample of the local dishes. The Black Scabbardfish is amazing, and Madeira is about the only place you can find it. They also have an incredible Kabab called Espetada that was fabulous. We walked thru the old town, the marketplace, with more snacks, tea service, and sweets. We learned a bit about the history of Madiera, it is not well-known in the US but I think that may change. Madeira is the known as the flower island and it is remarkably beautiful. Madeira is part of Portugal and the people all seemed to know English as well as Portuguese. Evidently, this has been a popular destination for UK travelers over the years. Thank you Leena, our tour companions and of course thank you to the wonderful people of Madeira. This was a great trip and we loved learning about your culture, your food, your island, your traditions.

Jacqueline is really great. We went on two tours with her. The first was a cooking tour where we had the best tuna I have ever had in my life. The sauteed clams were inspired and the chefs were charming. The second tour was a walking tour. I was afraid it would be all sweets, but the food was copious. Do not worry that you will not get enough to eat, which has been the case on some tours I have done in the past. There is more than plenty on this one. A wide variety of meats, seafood, veggies, dessert, wines, and the famous rum drink. I think you will be pleased. We certainly were.

A fantastic tour; very well organized, stopped at 6 or 7 places, with a very knowledgeable local guide who was passionate about Madeira, its economy and culture. Very well paced, with good tastings that really provided an insight into Madeiran culture. A nice touch to start at a tea house, stopped for cake and cookie samples, had a very nice lunch with all key madeiran dishes, then had a fruit tasting and explanations (very interesting), and chocolate/Madeira tasting at the market. Finished up at a poncha place. Despite the size of the group (10?) people, every experience seemed intimate. My favorite tour during a week of excursions.

Jacqueline the owner was our tour guide and she was amazing. Don’t eat breakfast you will get a lot to eat and drink along the way. She also got us a reservation at a new restaurant that was fantastic!
