The guide will be waiting next to the tall statue at the main entrance of the museum holding a sign of Amigo Tours. This is at the Street Santa Isabel

This activity will end right where it started.
Make your way to Madrid’s Reina Sofia Museum, and meet your guide by the statue outside the main entrance.

With your group together, head inside the beautiful museum, which once formed part of a hospital, and then wander the art-laden hallways to discover its treasures.

Learn about the different artistic styles such as abstractionism, cubism, surrealism, and modernism, and discover works of influential Spanish artists such as Pablo Picasso, Salvadori Dalí, and Joan Miró. While artists from outside of Spain aren’t heavily represented in the gallery, your guide points out works by the Mexican Diego Rivera among other international names. There are also international and national temporary exhibitions on show.

After learning about the people and history behind the Reina Sofia’s artwork, your tour ends in the museum where you can stay longer, if you wish.

I ordered an English tour but got multi language
Doron_S
, May 2022
I ordered an English tour (it also says so on my ticket). But when I got to the tour the guide started explaining in both spanish and English. She said they are combining them sometimes. This was a terrible experience and we left mid tour, because it was both boring and we only got half the tour content.

Spanish guides simply do not speak English
Ioana_M
, Apr 2022
Painfully disappointing: the guide barely spoke english although tour booked in english. To our surprise she spoke spanish, very detailed explanation and 1-2 sentences in english. The mic picked all the surrounding noise coupled with the very, very strong spanish accent of the guide, so less than 50% understandable. 5-6 attraction points, rushed like sprint. Overall tour took 50 min although we paid for 1.5h. All no-spanish speakers dropped off mid tour because of poor sound, poor english vocabulary of the guide. I speak both languages, so I benefitted from the Spanish explanations but my family relied on me as English…simply not available. I would NOT recommend this formula. Better go for a private tour!

Dear Ioana, the tour is bilingual and so it is described on the product on Viator's website. Our guides are able to explain the tour in both languages and we can assure that they make they best to repeat in english, word by word what they say in spanish. The duration of the tour is 1h and 15 minutes. We will note your comments and we will use them to improve our service Have a nice day!

Reina Sofia tour

Interesting tour. It was short so it only hit on a few highlights but the explanations were not just about the paintings themselves but also about the art movements happening at the times and placing them in historical/social context. Our guide, Jose (or Juan. I apologize for not remembering), was knowledgeable and personable. I would recommend this tour.

I did not really care for this museum. After visiting the Louvre, vatican and many others this was a disappointment. The guide was knowledgeable and did great so I am leaving 3 stars for that only.

My tour guide Irene was so knowledgable, fluent and enthusiastic... she made it really interesting.. I learned so much and didn't know how the time flew...super recommended if you like art and want to truly appreciate it! Also, you can't get a better value for money than this...I mean it also includes the museum entry and you can spend as much time after the tour inside! Unlike some of the feedback posted in the past, they had two separate tours - one in Spanish and one in English. I happened to be the only one for English - so I got a 'private tour' with Irene - and she was sooo good! Can not recommend Irene enough. Go and do this tour if you're in Madrid!

Was surprised it was bilingual since we thought we booked English. Well done but the wait between other languages became a bit distracting.

At US48 pp the cost was at the upper end of the spectrum but our energetic young guide soon had us wrapped up in forms of art that were once, mysteries. She began the tour exactly on time and divided us into two 'listening' groups. One Spanish, the other English. Some may feel deprived of half the guide's time with this format but we were quite content as it gave us private discussion time and an overview of other works in the room that were not focussed when it was our turn. She did an excellent job of explaining everything clearly and progressively in perfect English. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour as we not only saw the 'big ticket items' such as La Guerica, but it also added some detail to key events and characters in the evolution of Spain itself. Would we recommend this tour? Absolutely!

Excellent tour and guide. Although it says no photos on the info sheet, photos are allowed in certain parts. No photos allowed of 'Guernica', however. Our guide gave us very detailed information on many works of art as well as the artists' insight, in particular, Dali's 'Great Masturbator' and Picasso's 'Guernica'. Without the guide, we may have simply viewed the paintings and moved on. She gave us a deep understanding. Very well done. The museum could use better signage as to where things are, such as restrooms and cafes. All said, can't miss coming here.

Wendy P
, Sep 2017
The Reina Sofia Museum is a must-see for any art-lover visiting Madrid. We normally do not book tours of museums and art galleries, preferring to make our own way around them, but the postings by other Viator travellers persuaded us that we would gain more with professional guidance in this case. We were a bit dubious when handed radio receivers, but soon realised that this was the only way of hearing clearly in the crowded galleries. The guide, Irene, was very pleasant, fluent, and exceedingly knowledgeable about the various artistic movements of the early 20th century. The highlight of the visit has to be seeing Picasso's Guernica, and Irene's explanation of this iconic painting was revelatory.

I am a huge Picasso fan. You want to see Guernica you go here. Well worth it. It is spectacular. The museum has an old and new part. The old was a former hospital. Some great paintings in this place- Iot was also a better English Spanish split on the explanation- liked it a lot.

This tour did not meet my expectations. We spent a great deal of time moving our large group through the museum up and down several elevators and relatively little time looking at the art. Our tour guide, Jose, just seemed to be going through the motions. He hadn't made much effort to figure out how to translate what he wanted to say about the art into English, or to present a coherent perspective on the different art movements represented in the Reina Sofia. While he seemed knowledgeable about art from a certain perspective, he didn't seem to understand how to engage the group or to convey excitement or enthusiasm about Dali, Picasso, etc. Rather than exciting my kids about art, I think it turned them off art and museums.

This place is just amazing. We had a chance to see all Picasso's paintings very well explained by out tour guide. The guide has a small group and spoke very clear in both English and Spanish. Excellent experience and highly recommended.
