Drove a long way for this but saw very little. I will make sure that the clod bridges are included on my next tour.
Response from Host , Jun 2022
Hi Brian. Sorry the nature is like this. We saw quetzal. And more. In monteverde there is only 1 bridge. And at the reception they designed the trail. But after the tour you can go back and go to the bridge. Hop the nex time you enjoy more. Im sorry. I always do my best. But i dont haf a su. Blessings.

Roy is an absolutely amazing tour guide, and this tour was truly phenomenal. We lucked out with a private tour (just me and my wife) for the morning nature walk, and learned and saw so much all thanks to Roy. Extremely highly recommended!
We arrived at the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Preserve early and were able to get near the front of the line before the ticket office opened at 7:30am. Roy arrived a little early as well and found us in line, so we were able to get started on our walk almost immediately. He is extremely friendly and very fluent in English, so all of our conversations were wonderful. He is also extremely knowledgeable and passionate about nature in Monteverde, having lived in the area his whole life. Near the start of the tour, he asked us what kind of things we wanted to see most, which for me was seeing a resplendent quetzal. Roy then made it his mission to find one for us before the morning was done. Along the way, we saw endless incredible flora, an agouti, a family of howler monkeys, coatimundis, white-faced capuchins, a toucan, and various different kinds of other small birds. It was amazing seeing watching Roy track down different birds based on listening for their calls and wings flapping through the forest. By the end, Roy found not one, but three individual quetzals! I brought my camera and telephoto lens for the tour, but my wife was also able to get great photos of everything on her phone using the portable scope that Roy brought along.
After the tour through the trails within the preserve, Roy also directed us to the hummingbird gallery near the entrance, which was another amazing experience in its own right!
Roy is an excellent guide

My partner Cika and I absolutely loved this tour. Roy was so knowledgeable and also great company! We enjoyed walking around the reserve with him in search of wildlife, while also getting to learn about the natural history of the area, and his story becoming a naturalist guide. We were able to see several Quetzals during our tour and they were absolutely beautiful. We would go with him again on our next visit! We really look forward to that. Thank you Roy!

We liked our tour guide and he was sure to show us a quetzal bird. However, I didn't realize we would not be seeing very many animals since they are more likely in the lower elevations (like Santa elena). The park is still beautiful though and we enjoyed the plant life.

Excellent and informative. Quetzals!

Our guide, Roy, gave a great walking tour of the park. We learned so much about the flora and fauna we encountered. Roy’s knowledge is extensive and he shared so much information, stopping often to show us the wonders of nature around us and teach us.
We saw the best birds. A pair of resplendent quetzals! Emerald toucan, hummingbirds. Also saw a sloth. Roy’s spotting scope gave us great views of the animals.
Bring binoculars if you have them. Great tour, highly recommend.
A perfect morning walk

We had a very good tour of famous biological preserve cloud forest. Our guide Roy was experienced and knowledgeable and we were able to spot a Quetzal way up high sitting in the tree and a green venomous viper hiding underneath the branch. He helped us take the photos and view the animal/bird with viewing scope while talking about different trees in the forest and how the entrance fees helps scientists study different species of trees and animals. We were a little disappointed to not see any monkeys/sloths or more snakes than just one, but I guess, you can't help nature. All in all, it was a great experience visiting the cloud forest. But if you are going there just to see the wildlife, these tours are overrated in terms of wildlife. Wildlife is a hit or miss, we did not see much. I must admit that the trees, the tarzan vines etc are amazing in this forest and there is a hummingbird viewing gallery across where you see cute, little hummingbirds. If you do go, you must hire a guide or you won't see anything at all or won't know what you are looking at.

Bosque Nuboso de Monteverde Tour with Roy

This was a private tour of "el Bosque de Monteverde". Roy Gonzalez was my very knowledgeable and talented tour guide. This is certainly one of my favorite nature sites in Costa Rica, administered by the Centro Cientifico Tropical, formerly Tropical Science Center. The day started as a picture postcard day, but later evolved into steady rain. Roy's knowledge of the fauna and flora made the 5km walk truly interesting and captivating. We visited the "el Espejo" on the continental divide to culminate a terrific return for me to this wonderful forest sanctuary.
A Tour with Roy in the Cloud Forest Monteverde

I booked a tour with Roy based on good reviews. He exceeded my expectation in every possible way. We met at the park's reception, he took my husband and I on a informative walk. We were able to see not one, but three Resplendent Quetzals, one female and two males trying to impress the lady. We also saw a sloth, a motmot bird, wild turkeys, monkeys and more. Roy is very knowledgeable about the wild life and his English is excellent. He took good pictures through his spotting scope and shared with us via WhatsApp. We enjoyed every minute of the tour. I recommend tour with Roy wholeheartedly.

We perform checks on reviews
You can only submit a review or rating of an experience to Viator if you were the person who made the booking through Viator. Before publication, each review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information for each of the following criteria: who, what, how, and when. If the system detects something that contradicts our publication criteria, the review is not published. When the system detects a problem with a review, it may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site. In some cases, we will also send you an email asking you to validate your review before it is published. All you need to do is click on the link provided in the email. After publication, our team checks each review reported to it as not meeting our publication criteria. Tripadvisor reviews that appear on the Viator site are subject to the same checks and moderation processes as set out above. It is not necessary to have booked an experience through Viator (or Tripadvisor) to submit a review of an experience to the Tripadvisor site.
