Pompeii Half-day Trip from Naples

Awful experience from the moment we arrived. We couldn’t locate the tour groups because none of our guides had any type of identification signs or information visible. When I approached the 1st guide and said hi is this the tour to… She screamed at me. She said you need to wait. I will get you. It was so bad that the other guide that was standing next to her immediately yelled at the first guide that she was rude. It was an awful reaction to a simple question of am I standing in the right place. Completely unwelcoming from that very first interaction on. I was next told to go stand with Francesca however nobody said who Francesca was or where she was. When I asked the first angry guide she looked at me and ignored me. There was no directions given of where to go. We had to go around from group to group and ask are you Francesca are you Francesca? Francesca also got annoyed when we asked if she was Francesca. It was a simple question of am I standing the right spot with the right group. When we arrived at Pompeii none of the transmitters worked. We were told to take a 10-15 minute break and they would get them working. After they were “fixed” we could not hear Francesca. It was crackling it was hard to hear. A few times we could actually hear her she only said things like what’s your name, oh that’s nice. There was little information given on the tour. Francesca did not allow us to stop for even a picture. She hustled us through and make comments like anybody that’s last has to buy coffee for the group so hurry up. It was the most rushed and uncomfortable experience of my life. I requested a full refund from Viator. We had to leave before the tour was over because it was so stressful and take a taxi ride back to Naples. That cost an additional €90. Do NOT book this tour. Simply awful.

Our guide was pleasant and adequate. She gave us very limited information and locations. We didn't expect an in depth tour but we did expect more.

A very well executed 4 hour engagement going to Pompeii. Travel was efficient and the 2 hour tour of Pompeii hosted by our English speaking tour guide Mikela (sp?) was enjoyable. 5 stars to our guide. Two hours was perfect for us but future travelers should evaluate if they want a more extensive visit.

The guide was constantly asking the group questions rather then imparting information. If I wanted to be quizzed I would have went back to school. At the end of visiting Pompeii you are made to stay for an hour in tourist trap central before you are returned to Naples. Upon return to Naples the driver does not bring you back to the port where you were picked up. I’d rather suffer through an eruption of Vesuvius then this tour.

Excellent guide- funny, knowledgeable beyond the basic tour. She tied in many current phrases we use to how they originated from early Roman life, and when asked questions it was evident her knowledge went far beyond the basic tour. Group size was 35, very manageable. Directions of where/when to meet were concise. Bus arrived on time for pick up. Excellent value for the money!!

Viator did a great job and we enjoyed the tour and our guide. The site has removed all but just a few of the plaster casts of people to another museum. That makes the tour a little less impactful.

This half day day tour of Pompeii was exceptional. Our tour guide Francesca (she said to call her Chica) was very knowledgeable and engaging. We had two children (ages 8 and 10) on the tour and she went out of her way to include them, making them the stars fo the tour. She explained a lot about what life would have been like in Pompeii, but was very careful that the adults understood her clearly in a way that a child would not be uncomfortable. I recommend this tour highly, but I recommend Chica even more highly. She was fantastic.

This is a must for a visit from Naples. Our tour guide Elisa was wonderful. She was informative, charismatic and funny. She certainly had us wanting another tour with her. Hotel pickup and drop off was perfect and really added to the experience.

It was a rainy day but I still had a great time doing this. Our guide Francesca was wonderful! She gave us so much great information. She interacted wonderfully with the group including the kids. Honestly?, I didn’t think I would enjoy this tour so my lunch but I really liked it.
