Departure Time

8:15 AM
After hotel pickup in New Orleans, you're driven to the Oak Alley Plantation, located among the Great River Road sugar plantations alongside the Mississippi River. On arrival, stroll under majestic, 300-year-old oak trees leading up to the antebellum Big House, and take a tour of the opulent mansion with a guide dressed in period costume. The Greek Revival architecture was built in 1837 and later restored in 1925.

Wander the 25-acre (10-hectare) grounds at your own pace during your free time. Visit the blacksmith shop, snap photos of antique farm equipment, or peruse exhibits on slavery and the Civil War. Grab lunch and beverages at the restaurant or cafe (own expense) before the tour moves to the swamp.

Next, board the bus and drive to the site of your swamp tour. On arrival, board a 16-passenger airboat with stadium-style seating for a high-speed adventure through the swamp. You'll have unobstructed views of wildlife, including an up-close look at the star attraction: alligators.

Your captain is experienced at searching out these reptiles, even during hibernation in colder months. The airboat, propelled by a large fan that blows air from the back of the vessel, can produce speeds of up to 35 mph (56 kph). You'll ride in just inches of water into parts of the swamp that are inaccessible to traditional boats or vehicles.

Beautiful plantation

The plantation grounds were beautiful. I would have enjoyed a much longer stay. The swamp tour was so much fun and our driver was fantastic and fun. Loved him. The only thing that bothered me is that the mask wearing was not enforced. Everyone on the bus wore their masks except for two couples who sat in front row and took off their masks during the whole trip and the driver was fully aware and didn’t request they put them on. We are an older couple and followed the rules for our own personal health.

I was apprehensive on booking this because I don’t like “tourisy” experiences but I’m sure glad I did! The driver Gary was a breathe of fresh air in the morning with his upbeatness. He drove us out to the plantation and warned us when roads were to get bumpy. The plantation was beautiful and I felt the time allowed was enough there(2 hours) The trees were something! He then drove us to the airboat. I cannot express enough how awesome our captain Chaz was! He was someone I would want to grab a beer with. He was down to earth and hilarious. He made the experience special and informative. Give that guy a raise!

Thank you for the great review! Captain Chaz, Gary, and our staff truly appreciate the positive feedback.

Our bus driver was incredible! He kept the drive very entertaining and shared his first had accounts of what it was like during Katrina and the aftermath. Oak Alley was absolutely breathtaking (although the tour guides are no longer dressed in timed pieces) and the airboat tour was so much fun! Our captain even had a small gator he let everyone hold!
