Metate Ranch - Red Jeep Tours by Desert Adventures departure location , 38635 Monroe St, Indio, CA 92203, USA

Meet your Jeep and Guide in the dirt parking lot. NOTE: Once you turn onto the dirt road, you will only go about 100 feet before you turn left into a big dirt parking lot. If you get to the horse corals, you've gone too far. Please turn around and go back to the parking lot.

This activity will end right where it started.
After pickup at a central location in Palm Desert, enjoy a scenic drive through the Coachella Valley, until you reach your starting point.

Your guide explains the ecology of this desert environment and takes you to see an underground creek that has been forced up to the surface by the fault lines, creating a green oasis that supports a range of plant and animal life.

Then go to a recreated Native American site that illustrates how the native Cahuilla people managed to live in this harsh climate. See homes, a sweat lodge, and artifacts, and hear details about the survival skills needed for living in the desert.

Next up, get a close look at the San Andreas fault on an easy walk into a slot canyon. Your guide shows you arreas of the rock that reveal the region's unique geology and discusses the impact of the collision of the Pacific and North American plates.

At the end of your tour, your guide returns you to the original departure point.

Explore a natural palm oasis where crystal clear water bubbles up from the underground aquifer year round. Learn about the culture and lifestyle of the Cahuilla Indians and how they used the desert’s plants for food, medicine, tools, weapons, shelter, and more as you tour a recreated Cahuilla Indian Village. We had never visited the San Andreas Fault before. Thanks to our excellent Guide, we now know everything we wanted and needed to learn about this interesting geological feature. The landscape, the hikes, the Indian village, and the brief "off-road" adventure were amazing. Many thanks for a wonderful tour!

Very good experience. Learned many things. Our guide, Bill, was excellent. Plenty of water was provided. The short hikes were great except for the canyons as I can’t handle tight places.

Thank you Ron for a great tour! Ron provided a safe tour of the area only accessible by Red Jeep Tours. Ron gave us a history lesson of Palm Springs and some great info about the fault line. Non Stop Information
Pauline_H
, Mar 2022
We enjoyed much of the information and learned a lot on this. It was too much at some points . Our guide knew everything there was too know which was nice… but when a question was asked he mildly put the person in their place by either saying … “already said that and you were not listening “. Or by saying “I will get to that later”. It made it not fun because we had to listen on his terms and it was a bit too much. We wish we had a bit more hiking and a little more fun on jeep. If you want a in depth educational experience, you will love it . That is what it is .
