Departure Time

12:30 PM
Explore the natural wonders of Tahiti, the heart of the South Pacific, on this half-day afternoon tour of the island. Following hotel pickup in Papeete, travel aboard an air-conditioned coach to scenic highlights narrated by your knowledgeable guide.

Your first stop will be on the west coast where you will visit the famous Marae Arahurahu, a religious site dedicated to the ancient gods where important ceremonies used to take place.

Next, stop at the Vaipahi Garden. Wander around the tree-shaded landscape of waterfalls, ponds and colorful tropical flowers and listen as your guide identifies the plant life as you take in this botanical gem.

Continue on to Venus Point, located on a black-sand beach at Matavai Bay. Observe the Victorian-era lighthouse and a monument that commemorates Captain James Cook, who observed the 1769 transit of Venus here during his work for the Royal Society.

Hop back aboard your coach and take a scenic drive to the Arahoho Blowhole, where you’re treated to a natural show of seawater that spouts skyward during large ocean swells.

Finally, visit Taharaa View Point for panoramic views of the island before returning to your hotel where your tour ends.
Itinerary
Pass By:
Arahurahu Marae
Tahiti's best example of Marae - ancient Polynesian temples and meeting places - in all of Polynesia that has been fully restored, and is now maintained like a museum. The marae is now used for the reenactment of old Polynesian ceremonies during the July Heiva Nui celebrations. Toilets available at this stop.
Pass By:
Maraa Grotto
Located at the foot of a cliff along the main road, visit the impressive grottos filled with a lake of pure water.
Pass By:
Point Venus
Located in the north on the edge of Matavai Bay, it was the special scene of successive landings of European navigators. James Cook named it after the planet in commemoration of the transit of Venus that was observed during one of his scientific voyage to Tahiti. It is also one of the most beautiful black sand beaches in Tahiti. Toilets available at this stop.
Pass By:
Arahoho Blowhole
A lavatube designed by liquid lava flowing under cold and hard lava, creating a channel. When waves crash against the rocks and enter this channel, the result is a powerful sea water geyser that showers on lookers.
Pass By:
The Water Gardens of Vaipahi
Located in the district of Mataiea, the Vaipahi Gardens displays a wonderful selection of endemic plants set in a very exotic decor. A lovely waterfall adds up to the charm of the place. A charming little boutique displays handycrafts items to be purchased for souvenirs. Fresh local season fruits also available. Toilets available at this stop.

could not go as to the Covid virus and our cruise ship wouldn't let us off in Tahiti, We were not given a refund due to no fault of ours. Sadly we use Viator a lot and will re think that for future trips.

An unforgettable experience

We took this tour in our last day in Tahiti prior to our late evening departure. As it was a very rainy day, we did not expect much of it. However, it turned out to be an unforgettable experience encompassing both cultural and natural sites and points of interests with respect to the planning and schedule. Our French guide Alan was wonderful, very communicative and extremely knowledgeable of Tahiti, the South pacific islands and Polynesian history and culture. We had a great time listening to his stories full of wits and humor while getting soaked at the waterfalls and immersing into the magical world of Tahiti. The contrast between the lush green volcanic peaks and the black volcanic basalt are out of this world beautiful!
