Returns to original departure point
Make your way to the Pompeii excavation on your own (it's an easy trip from Naples or Sorrento on the Circumvesuviana train to the Pompei Scavi station). Meet your guide not far from the entrance to the Pompeii archaeological site. From there, follow your guide into the ancient city and travel back in time.

Learn about the volcanic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in AD 79 that buried Pompeii and preserved it. Walk on ancient Roman cobblestones, looking out for the ruts left by wagon wheels.

Visit the theater, where once there were lively performances of tragedy and comedy. See Pompeii's thermal bathhouse, where residents would go regularly to bathe, exercise, and gossip. Peek into the remains of local businesses, such as restaurants, bars, and shops selling food and clothing.

Walk through the forum, the heart of any ancient Roman city, to see the ruins of both temples and civic buildings. This is where priests and politicians spent their time, and where government and religion came together. Look at the barracks where Roman gladiators once trained and lived. Don't miss the rebuilt brothel, one of Pompeii's most popular attractions.

Pack a hat for summer sun, and wear comfortable shoes. You actually walk on lava rock.

An exceptional tour with a truly exceptional guide!

An exceptional tour with the best tour guide in Pompei - Lelo was informative, engaging and entertaining throughout, providing an unparalleled insight into the history of the city. A private tour is definitely worth it and it has been one of the highlights of our holiday. We can't speak highly enough of Lelo and his expertise; his passion for Pompei and its history was infectious and really made our trip unforgettable!

Fantastic tour of Pompeii with Lello. We were a group of 4 with one other couple so had plenty of attention from our fabulous guide. Lello was extremely knowledgeable and made the whole tour really fun and interesting for us all. It lasted just under 3 hours and we had time afterwards to wander around at our leisure if we chose to (we did!). It was worth the extra money to have a small group tour as the bigger groups seemed quite rushed and less personal. Can't recommend this, and particularly Lello highly enough Should also add that there was excellent communication from the organisers prior to the day with great tips on where to park and clear directions of where to meet. (Tip - Park at Camping Spartacus. Only $5 for the day and almost on the doorstep!)

Rich Experience

Lello, our wonderful guide, brought Pompeii alive for me and my daughter. Pompeii is a big area to cover, and I was so glad to have a guide to help focus the experience. He had such interesting information being an archeologist himself. Visiting Pompeii is not to be missed in my opinion since it gives such a view into life 2000 years ago, and having Lello for a guide was the best. I highly recommend him.

The ONLY way to see Pompeii

Excellent tour guide and experience. Pompeii would take days to tour all of it but in the 2.5hrs we had we saw the highlights and learned a lot. Doing it yourself would not be nearly as enjoyable. This tour is well worth it for those that don't care about history. It's just amazing to see it all. Tip: bring a little water and wear sunscreen. Also plan some time after the tour to explore more on your own as they explain what to go explore yourself if you'd like.

Our guide Lolo(sp?) was very knowledgeable and did a good job of navigating our small group around the larger groups and giving us a good overview of the entire site. A little hurried when it came to questions which is why it is a 4 instead of a 5 but would still recommend.

Excellent Tour Worth Every Penny

Lelo is a fantastic tour guide with wonderful knowledge and an excellent enthusiasm for his craft. He seems to know everyone in the place, both other guides and staff and is very friendly but also very attentive, and you get a real feel for Pompei and what life must have been like there. This was my second visit to Pompei, the first being some years ago and with no guide - what a difference, as I learnt so much more this time. It was wonderful to have a private tour ( 4 of us) when you see some of the tours with 40 or more people in. Lelo made sure that we were treated like VIPS and did not rush us, and allowed us to take our time and observe and take photos, and answered any questions we had with precise information and he has also got a great sense of humour. Would recommend this tour to anyone, and well worth the money paid.
