The tour guide was informative regarding the history of Azores and the city. I just feel for the price, the food selection was not a true reflection of the Azores. This was our last day for our vacation, so we had tasted many things that are typical of the Azores, so their selection was not impressive. Started with a pastry, then moved into a bakery with cheese and bread. Only one selection of cheese, so again, not a "taste" of different cheeses for the area. The other selection was chizoro. This was nicely displayed, but then that was that stop. The lunch spot was fried makeral. I feel that was a disappointment compared to the fish selections that I had tasted on our trip. The end was a dessert, same thing it was good, but not great. All and all the walking tour was nice and informative, but for the price of the trip they could have given more detail to the food selection.

Our tour guide Raphael was able to weave a lot of interesting history about Ponta Delgado and the Azores into a food tour packed with tasty food and drink. He shared facts about the history of food in Sao Miguel from the loss of the orange crops to the rise of tea and pineapples. He also discussed the history of the city pointing out different architecture and involvement in wars. The chorizo show and chocolate volcano were our favorite dishes of the day. We would recommend this tour to everyone visiting the island.

An exceptional way to taste the food and culture

This food tour was so much more than we expected. Diogo covered both the culture and history of the Island as well as taking us through a wide range of tastings— really more than tastings. It’s hard to identify a high point— probably for me it would be Tea, bread and cheese at one shop and flambéed chorizo at another. But how can I not mention the chocolate volcano dessert? We did this on our way off the Island which set us up nicely for our flight. Others in our group were starting their trips. A good way to learn the food so one can continue your exploration throughout your trip. Really, this is not to be missed.

We had a great time walking around Ponta Delgada and learning about local food and Azorean history. The guides were very friendly and knowledgeable. Bring your appetite! I appreciated the tip here on TripAdvisor to book this tour earlier in your stay. It helped us get a better sense of the city and places to go on our own afterwards.

Spending time with Rafael and Manuel was lots of fun and they took care to ensure everyone’s comfort. We had about 6 or 7 samples of typical foods in interesting settings. The food was offered in a sequence that made sense and served in generous proportions. Don’t hesitate to book a tour with them and be sure to save room for the grand finale!
