Informative Honest Walking Tour

The tour guide (female, 40-ish, and colorfully dressed) was very informative and refreshingly honest about Portland’s weaknesses as well as strengths.

Informative, but a bit heavy on all the negatives

Informative, but pretty grim view of Portland. Would have been nice to have a few more lighter moments interspersed with the negatives. Good does exist in Portland, amiright?

OK Tour

We had an overall good experience. Saw some parts of Portland we prob would not have found—& learned some interesting facts. It was good to do, but not the best tour we’ve had for the price. There were many occasions where traffic noise was loud, making it difficult to hear the guide. Would recommend if in the city for a short time, but not if you have more time to explore.

Not really a walking tour.

When we visit a city for the first time, we try to go on a few walking tours to get oriented and to learn about different areas. Maybe this was an off day, or maybe it was this particular guide that we didn’t vibe with, but this was probably one of the most uninteresting tours we’ve ever been on. I wouldn’t call it a “walking tour” as much as a “standing around different corners of the same park while getting an extremely deep history lecture” kinda tour. If that’s your thing, then you’re gonna love it! When we got around to walking a little in the 2nd hour, our guide would point out hilariously uninteresting details in the Downtown area, to the point where we thought we were being punked. My husband started calling it the “grasping at straws tour,” because apparently, there is nothing of interest in the area, except perhaps for the famous Portlandia statue. At one point we looked through the closed glass doors of an insurance building to view a small device on the wall that is connected to a weather beacon at the top of the building - I swear, everyone was like… “and?” Except for the public space across Pioneer Courthouse, which was pretty cool, Downtown has a vacant vibe and is unfortunately full of unhoused individuals, some of whom are pretty belligerent. We tipped the guide for her time, and while we appreciate her encyclopedic knowledge of history, too much time was spent on the deep past, and not enough exploring anything relevant to visitors expecting an intro to Portland.

Excellent experience. Combines Portland history, politics, and architecture. I couldn’t have been more pleased with this tour. In response to the reviewer who thought there were too many opinions included, I thought there was just the right balance of history/factual information and explanation of the recent Portland protests. It would be hard to get a true feel for the city without that information.
