Viator Messed Up My Booking
Gale_S
, Apr 2022
I booked and paid for 3 slots on the 2:30 Tour on 4/25 - I had tickets from Viator with this date and time clearly marked. My tickets were not honored by the local tour company (which is not Viator) because Viator told the local tour company that we would show up for the 9:00am tour. When I contacted the local tour company at Noon to verify the meeting location, I was told my group was a "no show" for the 9am tour and that the 2:30 tour had no seats. I've asked Viator for a refund, but so far I have not heard back from them. I can't recommend Viator as a 3rd party booking agency because of this error. Wish I could comment on the actual tour itself, but my group was unable to go.

Manuel our guide was so knowledgeable about the history of Porto. Despite the rain, we enjoyed the cathedral and train station. The port making experience and tasting was spectacular capped off by the boat cruise of the bridges and panoramic views. Highly recommend.

Avoid this

Booked the tour being misled by the description that cruise would follow the city bus/ walking tour. Not the case. The boat cruise was scheduled for 3 pm, 2 hrs after the end of the 1/2 day tour. So was asked to upgrade by paying 20 euros each in cash, to include lunch to kill the time in between. Was promised an email invoice for the payment. Not yet received it. Also beware the trip was conducted in Spanish and English. We ( English) being in the minority seemed to get a shorter abridged version of the Spanish. Not a good idea to be in a bilingual tour. Avoid it. The guide Paulo of Living tours was good, did his best to accommodate to the needs of the bilingual group. Not his fault. And yes the tour was subcontracted to Living tours of Porto.

Why I am not happy or satisfied? Its not for the city.... its a beautiful city and the people of Porto who are indeed very good. But the service of tour operator and the service provider are not good! I booked my trip through Viator. Firstly we were not picked up from hotel on that day not dropped back. The answer given to us was it was Saturday, no where it was mentioned in terms and conditions. Secondly, couldnot do the boat cruise of six bridges due to shortage of time. Little bit of waste of time in demonstrating the city repeatedly. Less time given in watching the cathedral in a better way . So we missed out boat cruise as it got delayed. We were given the voucher for boat cruise. Thirdly, hence forth I was trying frantically to cancel the tickets/vouchers for boat cruise because of our other commitments. Unfortunately, Viator company has not given any direct reply to my repeated 7 to 8 mails on my cancellation of voucher offered for boat cruise. Its going to be 7 days, except for auto reply of acknowledgement!! That's how we are not satisfied with the service provided to us....not even the positive reply to my question!!
