Yellow Bus is the worst- pick anyone else!

At two different stops an hour and half wait for a bus! We ended up walking- so disappointed in yellow bus. Tried to contact office - no one available to help. NEVER AGAIN

Don't wait for the bus!

Don't get the idea you can "hop-on-hop-off" so easily--we waited over an hour for the bus at one stop. We booked online and didn't notice we could download a brochure/map so were confused about how to find the stops, but we should attribute that to our own stupidity. Otherwise the tour, boat ride and porto cellar tour and tasting were great!

Wrong ticket

I bought this ticket by accident as I wanted the red or blue bus. I emailed right away to change it and no one responded. Not a good experience.

Perfect introduction so u get a quick overview of the City. I highly recommend booking the boat cruise and the wine tasting. Definitely worth it if u spend 2 or 3 days and u want to make the most of it!

Awful, unsafe.

Never again will I take a Viator tour. Bus did not enforce social distancing; during the River cruise the boat operator didn’t turn on the air conditioning inside, even after I asked as it was sweltering inside, we did not wish to sit outside because it was too sunny and I have sensitive skin. Outside there were people sitting all over the exit stairs which is against safety regulations worldwide. We had the 2 day hop-on/hop-off bus and only used it one time, we didn’t want to get COVID from strangers sitting on top of us. While the operators are not at fault for people ignoring safety regulations, they are completely at fault for not enforcing the rules they claim to follow.

Good tour but be aware they are not running as regularly as normal. Their map says their buses run every 30 minutes, but the purple route runs every hour, the orange one every 45 minutes. I think all tour buses are running similar schedules, but I wish I’d known.

Worthwhile

We always love the HOHO buses in new cities and the Porto one is very good. We feel like we saw more of the city than we would have otherwise. One bus tour takes you round the main parts of the town (incl dropping you at the boat trip) & the other goes away out to where the beaches are so you can spend 2hrs there before the next bus returns. The boat trip is a nice 40 mins long. Only negatives for me: no announcements of stops (we missed one!). The driver doesn’t stop unless you press the bell (or there’s someone at a stop waving them) so if you don’t know what the stop coming up is how do you know to press the bell ? I would recommend the 48hr ticket incl boat so you have time to do it all. Two tours at 1.5 hrs & 2hrs in one day is quite a lot so best to spread it out over at least two days. Oh and where to get the boat is not evident but if you look for Cafe Do Caia at Ribeira it’s next to that.

Worth it

Had 48 hours on yellow with 2 routes. Helpful to get around but wish they would announce stops like “stop #4”. On second day our transfer for Douro tour took 45 minutes to arrive so we ran out of time for wine tour after Douro river tour. Disappointing. Matosinhos is a must see for lunch if you like fish and seafood

1 day in Porto

If you have only 1 day in Porto, and want to hit major spots, hop on/hop off is not the ideal way to get around, specially, during off-peak season. The buses come every 30-40 minutes, and that's not close to rush hour times of the day. They are unpredictable at times. Wait times are really long. And the last trip is at 530pm...so, you will have to rely and pay for public transportation to see the rest of the sites. However, if you don't feel you need to get off at every stop, riding it around to see the whole city is perfect. Specially if you're tired walking those hilly streets. Not all seats have the best connection for hearing the commentaries...so it's a hit or miss experience. The buses are clean, the drivers are nice...they smoke a lot! And they don't know the purple line information if you're on the orange line bus, and vice versa.
