After meeting your expert local guide in central Porto, begin your Porto walking tour. First, enter the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Porto’s center. Learn the origins of Porto from your guide, which was first a Roman outpost, later came under Moorish rule and was mostly decimated in the 19th century by the French.

Next, observe old Romanesque walls and the Porto Cathedral. Then, see classic Baroque architecture as you stroll by the Church of Santa Clara, nearby let your eyes soak up vibrant colors of Moorish tiles that decorate building walls.

Continue along Aliados Avenue to Liberdade Square and listen to the chirp of locals. Arrive at the monument to King Peter IV of Portugal, built to honor the king also known as “The Liberator” and first ruler of Brazil.

After enjoying the historic city center, move on to Ponte de Dom Luis I, a modern double-decker bridge designed by Gustave Eiffel’s protege who gave it an Eiffel touch. Gaze out over the Duoro and view the traditional wooden rabelo boats that once were used to transport grapes to the cellars. Promenade along Cais de Gaia, lined with cellars and learn about how Port (fortified wine) is made. After passing markets and shops, finish your Porto walking tour in Ribeira Square where your friendly guide will bid you adieu.

Good walking tour

Tour guide was knowledgeable and very personable. My wife and I accidentally did most of the tour on our own by walking around. I did enjoy the context she gave about history through various parts of the city. 4/5 stars, tour did not wow me but was still very good. Would recommend this tour on your first day in the city.

The tour is organized by "blue dragon". We had Valter as a guide. He is an interested local who lead us thorugh the citiy, showed us the main sights, streets and viewpoints. The tour is in a light atmosphere (not heavy on history or architecture) and gives you a first impression of a beautiful city.

Great Tour of Historic City Center

We much enjoyed this tour of the historic center of Porto. Our great guide was Teresa; she is very knowledgeable, easy going and was able to quickly accommodate the itinerary based on our preferences, as it was just us, a family of 4. After this first acquaintance with the City we can now organize specific visits to musea, restaurants, etc., which the duration of the tour doesn't allow for.

Theresa did a fantastic job guiding us around Porto. It was a cool December day and perfect for wandering the streets and sights with a very knowledgeable person such as Theresa. Her ability to explain a mixture of history and culture along with some personal stories was the perfect balance. We would highly recommend this half day touch of Porto and advise asking for Theresa.

Guide talked about how he was starting his own business. He took a 10 minute smoke break. I could have gotten the same content reading a guidebook.
