At the bottom of the steps across the street from the Entrance of the Vatican Museums. The steps are located right next to Caffè Vaticano on the corner of Viale Vaticano and Via Tunisi. The closest Metro stop is Line A (Ottaviano – Musei Vaticani).

Sistine Chapel , 00120, Vatican City

The tour ends outside Sistine Chapel.

After meeting your private guide, go straight inside the Vatican Museum with your skip-the line ticket, and let your guide know if there’s anything specific you want to see or any particular interests you have that you’d like to hear more about, such as the history of the Vatican or the sometimes-scandalous stories about its inhabitants over the years.

Follow your guide to some of the complex’s dozens of galleries and rooms, such as Raphael’s Rooms, the Gallery of Maps, the Gallery of Tapestries and the Pinecone Courtyard. Hear about the famed Renaissance masters like Raphael and Michelangelo who created art for the popes, and listen to stories about rivalries between artists. You’ll eventually reach the Sistine Chapel, known for its iconic frescoes by Michelangelo—The Last Judgment and The Creation of Adam, which decorates the chapel’s sacred ceiling. (Talking inside the chapel is prohibited, so any commentary from your guide will be given outside the doors.)

Next, walk over to St Peter’s Basilica, the Italian Renaissance church that’s home to more artistic masterpieces, most famously Michelangelo’s La Pietà sculpture and Bernini’s bronze baldachin altar canopy. Then head outside for a stroll around St Peter’s Square, where your guide points out Bernini’s use of optical illusion at the colonnades. Your tour ends here, where you can continue exploring on your own.

Very good, our guide was very knowledgable and the Vatican is impressive. We were lucky to be there during this period, it's my second time and of course given the situation we didn't have to queue

Michelangelo, Raphael and Francesca - What More Do You Need?

Francesca was incredibly knowledgeable and so friendly. We enjoyed getting to tour the museum and Sistine Chapel and were amazed at their beauty and the diverse art within them. We ended up being separated from our our guide at the end of the Chapel tour and were not able to locate her. It would be good to have contact information more easily available if that should occur but the tour was one of the highlights of our time in Rome.

Barbara was spectacular. Passionate and knowledgable about Vatican art and symbolism. Pointed out so many details you wouldn't have known by looking at a travel book or following a large tour group. Private is the only way to go. Barbara was the best. She also gave us great suggestions for restaurants all over Rome. Our favorite was Pastifico where you get a pasta and glass of wine for 4 euro!

Because the Basilica was closing around noon for a mass our guide was able to get us through including the basilica before that. He was extremely informative and helpful. He prepared us well to appreciate the Sistine chapel art even with the huge crowd.

Great tour with an exceptional guide

This was a private tour for our family of four, and our outstanding tour guide made this experience exceptional. A professor of forensic archaeology, he was extremely knowledgeable, articulate, eloquent and elegant. From him, we learned an enormous amount not just about the general history of the Vatican museums and beautiful art collections, but also about the subtle nuances of many of the famous treasures and the fascinating and funny "inside stories" behind some of them. He gave us a unique perspective into the genesis of many of the pieces and the inspiration and personal idiosyncrasies of the great artists. It was a true pleasure listening to this special guide with his "mini-lectures." We were very fortunate to have him.
