This was an interesting tour and great value. It was good to escape from the city for the day and travel through the country side. The guide was professional but did not accompany us around the monastery. The tour also included a meal which was also very good.

Not really worth booking this. Especially if you have a car. It's really easy to find by car and doesn't take very long from Sofia. We were supposed to go straight there, but because of other tourists, we had to pass the Boyana Church first, which we had already seen the day before, so that was a huge waste of time for us. We were also supposed to be dropped of at our hotel first, since it was the closest to the road, yet the driver dropped off some other tourists in the city center first and we lost another hour. The guide seemed pretty good I guess, but talked a quietly and his English was a little broken. Like I said, it's not really worth using a guide. The monastery is amazing though, and something you just HAVE to see! We went in the winter, and there was snow in the mountains and incredibly beautiful.

Driver and guide both very intelligent, polite and well informed. We could not have asked for more. The road leading to the monastery had some similarity to Jonathan Harkers trip to Draculas castle and the monastery itself reminiscent of a Samurai castle in a Kurosawa film complete with torrential rain. Mercifully it let up and the sun came out later. The monastery was one of the highlights of our trip.
