A brilliant experience, our tour guide Raffaella was brilliant and really made the experience - we massively benefitted from having a guide, it gave a great insight into what we were looking at. I think it would have been difficult to navigate without a guide as it's so big. We had a much richer experience than had we visited the ruins alone I believe. It was all well organised, including the travel - pickup spot was very easy to find.
My one and only complaint would be that we weren't given any time to visit the gift shop, and had we gone in after the tour we would have been left behind the group going to the coach/bus.
Very Informative

Informative transfer with Rosa and safe, comfortable experience with Luigi (the coach driver). Raffaella was a brilliant tour guide who has a wealth of knowledge and experience. The tour was guided at a good pace and covered lots of facts. Only suggestion would be that the tour included some time during or after for tourists to get a drink or ice lolly to cool down. You should def bring a BOTTLE OF WATER 👍🏻

Pompei - an amazing place

This half day trip to Pompei was just long enougg for us as it was a very hot day and there is no shade as you walk around the ruins.
Camela was our guide and she was very informative. Using a microphone linked to the groups headsets was just a genius idea. We could hear everything she was saying as we walked around.
Pompei is amazing. It is so well preserved despite everything. You really get a sense of what it was like in those days before the disaster.
Top tip - sturdy footwear, a sunhat and plenty of water will help make it a great day out.
Hot but worth it

It was fascinating to finally experience something I’ve learned about in history lessons for years. You will get plenty of surprises through the tour, and be able to walk into several preserved homes and shops. Our guide (I think Marina or Manela?) was fantastic and offered a detailed view of the city. Be warned - it can get HOT! There’s often absolutely no shade and lots of people. I regret that we didn’t pack a mini fan, but am thankful we loaded up on sunscreen and water and hats.
A day with Pasquale in Pompeii

Very good 1/2 day tour of Pompeii with a very knowledgeable young man named Pasquale. Pasquale spoke very good English and was easy to understand with our cordless headsets. The tour was well paced and covered as much of Pompeii as time allowed…you would need at least a week to see every detail btw.
Our tour included transportation from Sorrento by bus and the driver was very professional and we felt safe at all times.
I would recommend this tour and if possible to join Pasquale as he is a very smart young man whom is studied on Pompeii.
Would not recommend

The tour was described as a four hour tour and in reality it was 3 hours of driving and only 2 hours in Pompeii. The guide sounded like she was reading from a script. She was not very animated and we felt rushed the whole time. She spent half the time translating into Italian which took away time from the tour.

Standard Pompeii Excursion - No Stress "Run of the Mill" Tour Option
Carrie_M
, Jul 2022
Pompeii is amazing, I've been twice before and it's an incredible experience to see a city frozen in time and so well preserved. I'd recommend Herculaneum over Pompeii in general, for a better preserved experience and a smaller town to explore. Unfortunately, this was not the best Pompeii tour ... I had to skip this tour b/c I caught a nasty sinus infection upon arriving in Italy. This tour would not let me cancel or refund my ticket, and so my husband went on this excursion without me. He had never been to Pompeii before, and he very much enjoyed his experience overall. This is his feedback: He said the guide was hard to hear and didn't add a ton of value because he couldn't hear what she was saying. He would have preferred a visit that was catered to an English-speaking group, as opposed to repeating everything in multiple languages, which made the tour hard to follow in general. It was also extremely hot, with little shade, so he recommends bringing hats, parasols, and plenty of water. He appreciated having someone lead him through the ruins casually, he liked having a ticket to get into the archeological site without any stress or having to speak the language, and he very much appreciated having having dedicated air conditioned transportation (the trains run regularly but they are not air conditioned and they often have portions of the train line running a single tracks so expect delays). This tour also offers -- for an extra 25 Euros -- you can add on a visit to Mount Vesuvius after lunch. It was REALLY HOT.

We perform checks on reviews
You can only submit a review or rating of an experience to Viator if you were the person who made the booking through Viator. Before publication, each review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information for each of the following criteria: who, what, how, and when. If the system detects something that contradicts our publication criteria, the review is not published. When the system detects a problem with a review, it may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site. In some cases, we will also send you an email asking you to validate your review before it is published. All you need to do is click on the link provided in the email. After publication, our team checks each review reported to it as not meeting our publication criteria. Tripadvisor reviews that appear on the Viator site are subject to the same checks and moderation processes as set out above. It is not necessary to have booked an experience through Viator (or Tripadvisor) to submit a review of an experience to the Tripadvisor site.

Sorting, ranking, and search results
Viator wants to make your searches as relevant as possible. That’s why we offer many ways to help you find the right experiences for you.
On some pages, you can select how to sort the results we display and also use filter options to see only those search results that meet your chosen preferences. You’ll see explanations of what those sort options mean when you select them.
You’ll see some experiences with a “Promoted” badge, which means that the operators of those experiences have agreed to pay Viator more to have their experience highlighted.
If you see an Experience Award Winner label, the award is based on average review ratings, share of bookings with a review, and number of bookings through Viator over a 12-month period.
The importance of any one factor over any other in a sort order varies, and the balance is constantly being reviewed and adjusted. We’re always updating our systems and testing new ways to refine and improve your results to make them as relevant as possible to meet your needs.
