After your ship arrives at Split Port, meet your guide at Diocletian’s Palace, an incredible UNESCO World Heritage-listed site. This two-part tour gives you the best of the area in just a half day. Stroll the streets of the palace, first constructed in the early 4th century as a retirement home for Diocletian, the Roman Emperor. About 400 years later, the palace in near ruins, vendors and shops began settle in, giving the palace its current look: it’s fascinatingly now part of the city, blended in with shops and restaurants and residences.

Begin the tour in the cellars and tunnels that exist beneath the palace and learn about their historical function. Soak up the atmosphere of this most unique site and then stroll the streets, stopping in the Cathedral of St. Duje, the patron saint of Split, as well as linger in atmospheric Peristyle Square. Finally, hit nearby Split Market to see the colorful fruits and vegetables on offer.

Later board an air-conditioned minibus for the drive up the coast to Trogir for the 17-mile (28 kilometer) drive. Admire the Dalmatian Coast along the way. The medieval town makes for a fascinating stroll. Learn the history of the place from the knowledgeable local guide as you walk the narrow lanes, popping into ancient churches such as the Cathedral of St. Lawrence, one of the most impressive works of architecture in all of Croatia. Gawk at the Venetian-inspired Renaissance and Baroque buildings.

Finally, board the minibus for the 40-minute ride back to Split where you’ll be deposited at the starting point of your tour earlier that day.

Great trip!

This was a wonderful excursion. The Diocletian Palace is huge and would have been extremely difficult to navigate without a guide. Our guide, Kristina, took us to all of the highlights, including a performance by a group of tenors in a part of the palace with world renown acoustics, all the while avoiding the crowds. Trogir is a beautiful little island that was well worth the short trip.

Tour and guide were good. A lot cheaper than what was offered by ship. Suggest better instructions of where to meet though. Hard to locate guide. Should say meet at display of town centre at end of shops on water front across road from palace. It is not a statue.

Our guide Yvonne was incredibly nice and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the Diocletian Palace, the drive to Tongir, and the City itself. If we had a complaint, it would be tepid AC in the car. It is especially hot this time of year, so better AC would have enhanced our experience. The driver was great as well.

Our tour guide was Bojana Kordic and she was delightful. Her knowledge of the palace and Trogir was superb but her enthusiasm and love for Split impressed me even more. We learned so much and the tour of the Diocletian Palace was outstanding.

Our guide Harris had a great attitude. Very informative, insightful and knew his way around town. Wish we had more time in Trogir due to the traffic on the way there which cut into the tour
