Had Ilir as our guide, and we couldn't have been more thrilled after reading so many positive reviews about him beforehand. He is an amazing cultural ambassador for Albania, loves his country's history and sharing it with others. It's an amazing full day journey back in time. You start at the top of the mountain ridge exploring the vast Berat Castle grounds with majestic views over the city the below, and slowly work your way down the mountain to end in the old neighborhoods of Berat, the city of a thousand windows. The architectural style here is quite unique and you soon see why Berat has this nickname. One thing that stood out right away about this tour is that Ilir is in no hurry to rush you through the sites. You are allowed to explore at your own pace. A full day tour in this case really means a full day; we were out for nearly 12 hours from start to finish. It's honestly the first time I've ever signed up for a tour that didn't seem to have a time constraint, and it was a real pleasure not to feel self conscious lingering in certain places too long. Just like with Albanian meals, where you can linger and talk for as long as you like after finishing the main course, this tour allowed us to just stroll at our own place and soak in the scenery for as long as we wished. In the end, it was truly relaxing and time just flew by. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes as there will be lots of walking, and most of it over cobblestones that can be very slippery if you're not paying attention. And bring a power bank or extra batteries for your camera because you will probably take more pictures than you think you will. :)

Wonderful day trip to Berat

Had a delightful day trip from Tirana to Berat due to our wonderful guide, Ilir. We were picked up promptly at the scheduled time from our hotel and enjoyed learning about some of the history of the country and city as we traveled. Ilir was very polite and we enjoyed the great conversation he provided throughout the day, with lots of insight about the areas we visited. He also knew where the best photo spots were in the city and made sure we could pause to capture the beautiful views. This day trip to Berat was the highlight of our vacation!

Ilir is the best tour guide I ever met in ten years (and I travel a lot). He drives very carefully; knows how to introduce culture, religion and history about Albania in the most interesting way; suggests the best spot and position for picture taking, and the most delicious food to enjoy…… Don't just choose places and price. A good guide is equally if not more important that could make your trip sooooo full of knowledge and fun.

Thoroughly enjoyable trip. Berat has a great atmosphere about it and the views from the top of the castle are beautiful as are the views from the riverside. Ilir was a great tour guide, very knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely recommend this trip :)

It was unfortunate that the weather was rainy and downcast on the day we visited Berat. However, Berat castle still charmed us with its characteristic roads tiled with white stone along with panoramic views of the surrounding neighborhoods. Throughout the day, our guide Illir took special care to ensure that we were comfortable and well taken care of. He was also very knowledgeable about the history of Berat and Albania and did his best to share that with us and keep us engaged. We also got to try some lovely local food at a family restaurant while in the castle.

My friend Stacy and I booked this excursion in early April before we started our organized journey through the Balkan region. Ilr was fantastic! Despite a rather rainy day, he made our first day in Albania really wonderful. He is a well versed guide, easy going, flexible, funny, and adapted well to two talkative American women who were excited to be on holiday. We had a fabulous lunch as well and I tried the famous Albanian raki. Ilr also gave us a few suggestions for our next day in Tirana which were much appreciated. I highly recommend this trip!

I had the pleasure of taking this tour to Berat with My guide ILIR, it was a excellent day, I could not recommend it more. ILIR was fabulous, both in his knowledge of Berat and the attractions we visited but he also gave an extensive understanding of Albania and its history. I couldn't recommend the tour enough. Just to add there is allot of waking over cobbled streets involved so wear comfortable shoes.

Highly recommend this trip. Our tour guide, named Ilir, spoke excellent English and was very engaging and amiable. Expect a bit of a climb up to the castle, so no high-heels, ladies! After taking in the view and sights of the castle area, we took lunch on the way down at Restaurant Onufri, and were beyond pleased with the food. The owner was very nice and outgoing. This was followed by a trip to the town for a walk around to see the sights of the city. It was a day well spent, you'll be happy you booked it.
