Saint Mark's Basilica , P.za San Marco, 328, 30124 Venezia VE, Italy
Meet your guide at the post office near St. Mark’s Square and stroll to the Doge’s Palace, the power base of the Venetian Republic for many centuries.

Admire the exquisite Gothic exterior, and bypass the main entrance lines with your skip-the-line ticket. Pass through security, and tour the opulent rooms, adorned with masterpieces by artists like Titian and Tintoretto. As you explore, listen as your guide tells tales of Venice’s doges and their ruling councils, charting the history of the 1,000-year republic and those who shaped its fortunes.

See the stunning gold staircase as you learn its history, and follow in the steps of prisoners who once crossed the famous Bridge of Sighs to their incarceration. Hear about prisoners like Giacomo Casanova and others, and view the bleak prison itself.

Next, head for St. Mark’s Basilica, another St. Mark’s Square showpiece. Admire the ornate façade, and pass the main lines for a comprehensive tour of this Byzantine masterwork.

See the gold mosaics and marble floor inlays, and view highlights including the gold, gem-encrusted Pala d'Oro alterpiece and the icons and riches in the Treasury.

Your tour then finishes in St. Mark’s Square when your guide departs.

Our guide was excellent and very knowledgeable. Small group tours with very little waiting time. Very long lines otherwise.

The Basilica was outstanding. Viewing the mosaics and I found the floor in the basilica was gorgeous with it's tile designs! Our guide, Monica, was very informative.

Doges Palace and St Mark’s Basilica

, Jul 2022
The tour was conducted by the most knowledgeable and best guide we have experienced with Viator bookings (Friday, July 28 at 10:30). It covered very beautiful and treasured art , and the guide was well- versed in the history of each area on the tour. The only downside of the tour was the oppressive heat.

Best way to visit St. Mark’s!!

This is a great way to visit San Marco and the Doge Palace. The line to get into the cathedral wrapped around the building. We, on the other hand, skipped this line and our group of 10 entered easily with our excellent guide. I truly believe this tour was worth every cent!

The guide was nice and informative but his accent made it difficult to understand. My children, ages 9 and 12, were not engaged. It was not worth the ~$500 for a family of 5.

Tour guide nice but superficial. Provided no unique insight during the basilica or palace tour portions, in fact, I would have preferred to go at my own pace to read the signs within the palace, which were quite informative.

Good tour but unorganized at the beginning, and wrong meeting place
Laurie_M
, Jul 2022
This tour did not meet where it was supposed to. Instead it met at a wooden kiosk called “meeting place” about a 100 feet away. Also, the tour guides should have a better way to organize their groups. No one knew where the English speaking group guide was, and it took a lot of running around to find our guide. Very unorganized beginning of tour. Our guide herself was great though.

Informative, but too big and rushed
Aaron_N
, Jul 2022
The tour was a chaotic mix. The original meeting was hectic, and we had 22 tourists in the group, making it easy to get separated. The guide was very knowledgeable, and her tour of the Doge's palace was very informative, although a bit rushed. Saint Mark's Cathedral in particular was very rushed and confusing. They didn't have tickets for the group to enter when we got to the gate, so we all got stuck as they waited for another agent to show up with everyone's tickets. Once inside, she kept us moving too quickly to take it all in; walking around and reading an online tour would have been more informative. When we reached one part of St. Mark's, she informed us that some people didn't have the right tickets for the next section, and she literally just walked off, leaving some of us (without the extra tickets) behind, unable to enter and unaware that our tour was ending at that point. When we figured out what was happening, since we had the audio earpiece/lanyards, we gave them all to someone at the tail of the group who volunteered to take them to the guide, who seemed unaware or uninterested. In short, the Doge's Palace tour was great, and it was very convenient to skip the lines, but the overall experience was very uneven and rushed. We felt like cattle, especially when the guide just left us behind and told us over her shoulder that we were on our own from that point. You're better off in a smaller group or prepurchasing your own tickets and following a self-guided tour you can find online or in a guidebook.

Boring and Hot
Richard_B
, Jul 2022
I really hated this tour. While our guide did have a lot of knowledge about Doges Palace and St. Mark’s Basilica, he did not present it in an interesting way. He also did not speak clearly and slowly. Several people took their headphones off because they just gave up. When you only have a day in a city such as Venice and your time is wasted, you regret it. We spent 2 hours and then left early…We could not endure a third hour.

We are sorry to hear that you did enjoyed the tour. We are sorry if it was hot but in the Doge's Palace and Basilica there is no air conditioning as they are hystorical Palace.

Beware: Way longer than 2 hrs.
Chris_M

Says it’s a 2 hr tour. It is definitely significantly longer than that. We got through maybe half of Doge’s Palace in that time and had to leave after the 2 hrs as we had prior commitments. We did not get to see the Bridge of Sighs or the Basilica.

Fantastic Tour Guide Made All The Difference
Thomas_W
, Jun 2022
We had a party of six, three of whom had never been to St Mark’s Basilica or the Doge’s Palace before. Our tour guide, Diane, was excellent! Very friendly and knowledgeable. She struck just the right tone of detail with historical facts mixed with funny stories. Her easy going style made the experience feel as if we were with a long time friend we’d known for years. Several in our group are not “history buffs” but they expressed how they enjoyed the tour so much more than they had expected to simply because of Diane. I think it set their minds at ease for the remaining tours we have left on our trip. The combined tour of both buildings lasted about two hours which was perfect for us. Don’t know if you can make requests for tour guides with Viator when booking your tours but highly recommend Diane.
